I am referring to the conclusion he draws (apparently) that if his gun wouldn't have been taken, the girl wouldn't have been killed. Hence why he blames himself and says it's all his fault she's dead, etc.
It's kindof like someone stole my car and decided to plow through a crowd with it. Yeah, that sucks. But if wasn't my car, it'd have been someone else's. Not my fault, and I wouldn't blame myself for it.
But it's a minor detail....just something that I didn't "buy" while I was watching it. I suppose some people would blame themselves completely. I am not one of those, and I would think a homicide detective would not either (or at least would like to imagine they would be a little more logical).
