Great review for the S1...yet i'd definitly pass on it due to its inaccurate color...well like in the review, GREEN comes to mind, and Cyan.
It's great to hear that the S1 has superior motion thanks to its 600hz, but as far as the 1080 lines of motion resolution goes, the review couldn't see the difference in detail, not that i really care.

Anyhoo, hopefully the G10 with its THX mode will deliver fantastic color, because that's the only difference i'm guessing the G10 will have over the S1 regarding PQ
post #152 of 9976
CNET's David Katzmaier gave the S1 a 3.5 out of 5 rating.

On the Product Summary section above the actual review one of the negatives going against the S1 is "less accurate primary colors and color temperature." I'll bet you that's the reason why the S1 only got a 3.5.

Thanks to the color accuracy of the THX picture setting, I predict that David will give the G10 series model nothing less than a 4.0 out of 5.

Quick note: (Chad is still here.) Good news, the G10's Blacks are blacker and the whites are whiter compared to the 800U. Contrast ratio is 3X better.

Looks like those folks who held out for the G over the 800u are going to score.
3x on the contrast. Whooaaaaaaaa.

Sounds awesome, now the question is, how much better is the motion?

Judging by the S I played with @ BB it is awesome.

So here's a nice question for debate how stupid would it be for a person to buy one of these and only have a standard dvd player to hook up to it because they are waiting on the ps3 price drop next month.....

By the way he's done with the tv......
More info please My old tv heard the new line was out, and died on the spot. I have no tv at all until I order a new one. Could this be a sign? I have waited 2 years for this. Is the TC-P50G10 mana from heaven?
Are we talking pre-calibration, or post-cal?
Thanx for your efforts here!

No motion problems. I did not see a flicker. Deep blacks. White whites. THX mode is not that good this year, Chad chose custom mode to tweak the most.

Can someone in Cleveland get Chris a camera and a tripod?

Whoa, whoa, whoa... My excitement just got deflated.

If THX is no good, then there's no point in buying a G10.

Now I'm all confused.

I don't really care about THX. I'm going with the V 58" and will have Chad come calibrate it.

How could Panasonic screw up their THX Mode, shouldn't it be superior or at least the same as the 800u....Well one thing is for sure, at least with the new Samsung Plasmas coming out, they'll have GREAT color

Here in europe unfortunately there will be no THX Feature in the G Series and possibly any other Pana models. Does anybody know if the european G models have greyscale and the other calibration options needed to get those TV´s close to rec.709 ? Deep blacks are nice but having master Yoda like skintones... i don´t know..

As someone considering a new TV in about a week, I have been reading about several sets, and with plasmas I have read about how some plasma sets seem "to improve" after 100 to 200 hours of breaking in, etc. I believe the set being evaluated is completely new, so if we wait, we may read that after a couple of weeks of use the THX might seem better. Of course we might not, but I suspect we do need to wait for reviews of sets that have been used for a time.

Now I'm all confused.

There are 4 other modes The custom mode this year can be dialed in better than the THX mode of last year (per chad) ( So who cares about THX? ) The contrast ratio is about 3X better. Chad will post the charts and review later tonight or tomorrow.

no worries, the G10 is better overall compared to the 800U.

( I said it is not as good, does not mean it outright stinks. I agree with the comment above, THX is not all it is cracked up to be anyway.)

Chris has been burning in the tv since he got it so it could get calibrated. I am disappointed that the THX seems to have slipped this year.

How does it compare to the 5020?
So THX mode is inferior to Costum Mode?...Well then, there's no point in getting the G10 when i can get the same TV which is the S1 for a cheaper price...But going by the CNET review, it offers inaccurate color, and looks alittle Greenish which throws me off. Anyways, Samsung will most likely have the g10 beat than when it comes to color, hell the 550 had fantastic color.

That's what I'm talkin. And what I figured you meant.

Thanks a ton for sharing this. Awesome. Besides, we know no one on here would ever be tweaking custom mode.

evidently the custom setting allow for better overall calibration of the tv for this year. The THX mode on the 800's allowed for better service menu calibration last year.

Of course we could just be splitting Hairs here. Chris mentioned the Yellows are off some in THX. The normal user may not even notice it.

Since custom mode can be customized per input, that's a good thing in my book! I'm happy again.
