New York Panasonic used a Holidays in June product showcase here Tuesday to reveal plans for a series of price cuts on select 46-inch and 42-inch plasma TV models, effective June 28.

Three 46-inch models will have their suggested retails reduced by $200 each, including the TCP46S1, formerly $1,499, reduced to $1,299; the TCP46G10, formerly $1,699, reduced to $1,499; and the TCP46G15, formerly $1,799, reduced to $1,599.

I always wondered why Panasonic had the price set like this. For S or G10 series 42' to 46' $400 diffrence but 46' to 50' only $100 difference. I am sure this is affecting their sale of 46'. So looks like they realized that and adjusted the price.

Lets see what type of rebate they are offering in July. I got on my 50G10 on 21st June so if within 30 days if they have a better rebate I might be able to take advantage of that (I am happy with the current deal).

I ordered my TC-P42G10 from Amazon, shipped via Pilot Freight. It arrived this past Monday, with a corner of the box looking fairly dinged up. The guy took it out, we plugged it in, and all it would do it make a horrible loud buzzing sound, and no picture. Boxed it back up, Pilot took it back, contacted Amazon, and another is now on its way from CEVA, due to arrive early next week. Certainly disappointing after doing so much research and then finally making a purchase, and now needing to take another day off of work to wait for delivery.

That's one of the downsides of online buying, but at least you bought it from a reliable merchant. Although the same thing could happen with a local business, you probably wouldn't have to take an entire day off to wait for the delivery.

TC-P42G10 just dropped on Buydig, the TC-P46G10 dropped also, can't post prices on here so go check that out.

I haven't seen a reply, so I'll jump in. Even though what I have is a G15, the results should be the same. I'm running the 120 pic SD card that I d/led from the link on DNice's post that folks quote on this thread.

The gradients of colors are readily visible on my display, same as they are on my laptop computer.

If I had any way to explain the difference between what you and I are seeing, then I would. Sorry, but I don't. Maybe wiser folks here can.

No, it's not necessary.

Yes. All you have to do is get special training and spend tens of thousands of dollars on special calibration equipment

Check out the Display Calibration forum here on AVS for more info

Just ordered the 50G10 from ABT.com. Great price and I got the camera with the rebate, as the wife has been wanting one for awhile now.

This will be my second Panny Plasma and I love my first one and is working great after 2 years. This one will go in my gameroom, so now when football season gets here, I'll have no reason to leave the room!

I just hope it arrives next week before I go to Mexico on vacation!

Only a small % of people who buy these sets get them calibrated. This is a "science" forum where videophiles discuss improvements and "nitpick" about their favorite displays. The level of Picture Quality on these sets is very high and doesn't require anything. You just have to find the right settings for your preference. You can interact with owners and discuss what they are doing to improve their displays.

I'd suggest reading some threads and DON'T get concerned about all the "issues" that are discussed here. For the most part, you probably won't have these issues. Remember, people on here like to nitpick.

Factory default. I haven't changed anything yet.

Oh, I do run the SD card on VIVID, but that's the only change. I meant I haven't changed anything in the service menu.

From my understanding, professional calibration would be a very poor value proposition with these (unless the calibrator only charged a fraction of his going rate). These displays lack any sort of detailed color or gamma management (even in the service menu), so the only thing a calibrator could do is fix the grayscale and adjust the color and tint in the user menu to a best fit compromise. By in large, these are things you can approximate pretty well with posted settings and service menu offsets. Or if you want to do it yourself, a calibration Blu-Ray (or downloaded HD patterns) and an affordable i1 colorimeter and some freeware.

just got over the 100 hour mark with my 54g10 and im ready to start really playing around. so far i have run the break in slides for about 50 hours and had solid full screed high def content (including blu ray) on for the remaining 50 hours. what has everyone been using for setting for normal tv?

is the THX mode perfect? i really enjoyed the couple of blurays i watched, but not quite the guru that you all are.

any help is great. the game mode is awesome for ps3 games. just awesome.

My room is well lit with natural light during the day. Completely dark most nights! Thanks in advance!

Anyone able to program their DirecTV HR20 or HR21 remote (RC34 or 64) so that the DirecTV remote controls the TV volume? I couldn't get it to work with my 42PX80, and haven't found one yet for the 46G10. . .

TIA

Same for me. I can't get any of the recommended codes to work for my Comcast cable box remote.

I've been playing with my G10 settings for a long time now and I think I'm getting close to the perfect settings. THX mode is good but Custom is better, THX seems to have this antique like filter to it if you look closely when comparing to Custom mode which appears more realistic. I'm going to list my settings then explain why I've set everything accordingly

CUSTOM MODE

Contrast: 68 : Seems to be the sweet spot, any higher under custom makes the colors explode and seem unrealistic

Brightness: 61 : Custom mode automatically makes everything so much brighter, compared to THX. There's no reason to why you should have it too high, custom mode already comes much brighter when coming from THX. So having customs brightness over 65 will probably look too bright (my opinion). The ideal setting seems to be around 60. Keep reading if you think 60's too high.

Color: 44 : High 30's Low 40's makes flesh tones appear pale and unrealistic, you want that warm lifelike looking flesh tones setting at 44-45 gives you that. Any higher/lower doesn't look right to me

Tint: 0 : People like to set the tint into the negatives, and I don't see why. It should be set to 0, it clearly balances the color out

Sharpness: 75 : Sharpness doesn't affect the picture quality that much but it looks best on default, which is 75.

Color Temp: Warm2 : Warm2 delivers the a rich/clean/smoother/ look when watching HD, it also makes flesh tones to appear more accurate.

Color management: OFF : I've switched this on and off many times while watching a blu-ray and can't see a difference, so I leave it off.

x.v.Color: OFF : Same with Color management

C.A.T.S: ON : I think C.A.T.S should be on in custom mode. It eliminates that excessive brightness you see when coming from THX. The picture should always be as dark as possible, but not to the point where you see loss in detail. That way you are really taking advantage of the G10's TV's black levels. C.A.T.S is probably the most important option when using custom, it eliminates excessive brightness.

With these settings, I feel that its the way THX should look like. On a side note, blacks also seem to look deeper/darker when in custom mode, over THX mode. Which is strange because THX is at 100 Contrast and Custom is at 68.

I'm basing these settings off the 50" G10, and keep note these all have to be set under Custom mode

so i called a wholesaler on craigslist yesterday and got a 54g10 with 2 hdmi cables, it was delivered and installed the same night...it only cost me $100 more than online with their curbside service...all in all i was satisfied the service, very quick and hassle free

i have been playing around and reading the manual...the picture keeps going to vivid mode and the various features of the set keeps showing up on the screen interrupting whatever i am watching...anybody experience this?

That seems odd. I'd try taking the batteries out of the remote and see if it still does it. Then you would know it's not the remote.

Have you taken it out of store mode (did you change your location setting to HOME)?

You failed to put the TV into HOME MODE the first time you turned the TV on and ran though the setup routine. It's one of the first settings you have to choose when first setting the TV up so did you see it and select STORE MODE instead of HOME MODE? The manual details how to reset the TV from STORE mode to HOME mode (something about unplugging it or holding the power button down on the front of the TV etc).

Are you sure this TV is brand new and not a display model that was already in STORE Mode??

Hello, I'm a pretty big gamer so PQ for gaming is big for me. For that reason I was going to go LCD but then I saw how beautiful the G10 looked. Can anyone let me know how gaming (xbox360 or ps3) looks on this tv? Is the PQ as sharp and vibrant as an LCD? Is the phosphur trailing as bad as some people say? Anyone have any pics? Thanks in advance.
