BenQ Quality and Customer Service

Read a few posts and decided to start my own...

Sorry to say that I, too, have had similar problems with a BenQ product and customer "dis"-service. A few months ago my PB-6200 just croaked. Discovered that the main control board was out and needed replaced. Since out of warranty I took the PJ to a local repair shop (authorized by Sony and Epson). Out of warranty repair was first quoted at over $1,200!!!! WOW!!!

I got involved by calling BenQ customer service and spoke with Jessie (just as mentioned in another thread). He claims "no way" the most expensive part is only around $200 and would require 1 or 2 hours of service time. Long story short, my local repair shop finds out that the guy that quoted the parts to them was fired for "over-quoting" replacement parts. New estimate is around $500 AND it cannot be fixed locally, it has to ship to CA for repair. Even once BenQ receives it it's another 3 weeks turn-around (For 2 hours of labor mind you!!!).

Two weeks go by, I call Jessie only to find out he longer works there! What a mess!

To top it all off, the new CS rep I spoke to offers to give me a more firm estimate knowing it's the main control board and then the BenQ tech responds with an email asking for a part number or a picture of the board itself. WTF!!! You guys manufactured and sold this DAMN thing, you should know the part number.

One week has passed....no response!

I had maybe 600 hours on this PJ, it has cost me just under $2 per hour to operate. If someone knows how to fix it, I'll sell it cheap.

This was a very popular PJ 4 years ago. I'd be interested to see if any others have had similar problems with their equipment.

I think your best option is a new projector. A repair like that can easily cost $500. You can get a refurb Optoma HD70 (6 month warranty) with a new bulb for $600 and a new sharpt dt-510 for $720.

Unfortunately, that's exactly where I'm heading. Just needed to vent and see if others have had the same issue. BenQ and several of the retailers were pushing the 6100 and the 6200 hard back in 2004.

FWIW - I'm liking the Sharp DT-510. It's short throw will work great in my HT.

I agree. I'd get a new projector. Just imagine if you run into another issue in a few months and need to send it to them for repair again...

I agree, the way prices fell over the last 4 years, makes it almost impossible to repair a unit at a reasonable cost. New really is a good alternative at this point.
