HD in Ohio,
Yes - we are anxiously awaiting your review.
Please post pics! I'm especially interested to see how carada designed the masking system as I'm looking for inspirations on my own DIY CIH masking system.

The delivery happens tomorrow afternoon. I'll unpack either tomorrow evening or on Saturday when we plan to install the screen.

Unfortunately, after that I'll have just a bit more waiting. The Masquerade was on the Critical Path and had to arrive before I could schedule the projector install. Once I actually have the Masquerade in my basement, I'll give AVS a call and complete the install of the RS20 and A-Lens.

I have an RS20 too. Which A-lens did you choose? (The AVS branded Prismasonic?)

Yes, I bought their version of the HD-5000R. Once AVS gets it installed and calibrated to the RS20/Masquerade, I'm hoping to control the entire setup with a Harmony One.

BTW, I also went with AVS' version of the Prismasonic CB-200 ceiling mount. That mount is designed to handle both the PJ and the Prismasonic A-lens. Should make for a tidy install.

I'll post pictures when completed.

I missed this until now.

Great pics at link.

Very nice.
Now I just need to wait until I get WAF clearance to purchase more stuff.
I just got my 360 hooked up to the computer so we can look at family pics on the big screen -- but I think masking is needed.

Good point about missing my update to this thread -- to thread subscribers, this weekend we installed the 136" version of the Carada CIH Masquerade. See my "First Impressions" thread here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1173336

Mike, I think a Masquerade would be *almost* necessary to keep from boring the neighbors with your latest vacation shots.

Here's a teaser shot of the Masquerade install:

So true. That's why I would only show the baby pics to the grandmas!

Great pics by the way!
Nice HT setup.

I've been on the road, Mike. Somebody's gotta pay for the HT toys...

We've just about completed the media shelving - if that's done this weekend, I'll grab some *****finally complete!***** HT pics and post them.

Last weekend my wife had 9 sisters and sister-in-laws stay at our home for the weekend. The HT got a real chick flick workout. A good time was had by all - I even got a chance to watch the F1 race on HD Speed Sunday AM.

I'm surprised there is not more action in this thread ...? Seems like Brad is the only person using one of these right now. Or am I missing something?

That's why I was asking.
Bad economy.
People that are getting custom installers are likely not price conscious and pay for Stewart.
Other people are likely in a holding pattern.

We may need a Masks for (HT) Clunkers program!

Yup. The economy sure doesn't help. However - I think this is truly a fabulous product and priced well below the competition. If I hadn't just completely renovated my theater in January/Feb (120" wide 2:40 CCW, RS20/UH480 w/ auto slide, black fabric on walls) I would be all over this. I thought this product was a year or more away when I bought my new screen. Now I'll probably have to wait till next Spring at the very earliest (used 2:40 screens are very hard to sell).

I just saw an ad for this potential competitor.

Vutec DYNA-CURVE VM
Fixed Curved Screen with Multi-Aspect Vertical Masking

Any ideas on MSRP?
I added to post #1 info.

That Vutec looks really nice.

Anyone know if Carada plans on making a curve screen?

I don't know, good queston.

I think many would like to see options for:
- AT
- curved
- 4 way masking

Yea I really hope to see AT,Curved,4 way masking and electric screens from Carada. Also a screen material with a little more gain would be nice to.

Hey Mike, we've been enjoying the heck out of our HT for both movies and gaming. F1 racing with the PlayStation is just awesome on the big screen. The Carada CIH Masquerade is now controlled automagically through the Harmony 900.

I set up soft buttons on the remote and placed small color-coded labels on the spine of each DVD/BR disc case so my wife didn't have to worry about Aspect Ratio:
- Watch a Red Movie (JVC expansion on, Prismasonic Lens Wide, Masks 2.35)
- Watch a Green Movie (Expansion off, Lens Pass, Masks 1.85)
- Watch a Blue Movie (Expansion off, Lens Pass, Masks 1.78)
- Watch a Yellow Movie (Expansion off, Lens Pass, Masks 1.33)
- Watch TV (Expansion off, Lens Pass, Masks 1.85)

During the Activity, the remote shows a Jog Mask Open and Jog Mask Closed soft buttons along with others for the lighting controls. She can now watch a movie when I'm not around. Pretty cool.

No more new pictures of the HT, but we did finally complete the other areas of our basement remodel. See it here.

That's great info.
I have a 900 for my living room system.
I guess you just use the soft buttons for aspect ratio changes and not controlling everything -- eg BR on/off, etc. I think that is a limitation on a non-2 way system (eg AMX, Crestron, etc...).
Very cool.

I'm waiting a little bit longer but hope to get a masking system post holidays.

It would be great if they could make materials like the StudioTek 130, High Power, HD Progressive 0.9, Center Stage XD, FireHawk and GrayHawk at a much lower price. The Classic Cinema is close to the SnoMatte which is incredible.

Since you have a 900, you know it doesn't support Sequences. It would have been ideal to have a single command for watching a BR, then soft buttons within that Activity for each aspect ratio (each would properly set up the Projector, A-Lens, and Masks).

Without Sequence support, I couldn't get that done with the 900, so I had to create separate Activities for each Aspect Ratio. It makes sense to my wife, and that's all that mattered.

Unfortunately, I also have a Laserdisc collection, so I'll have to set up similar discrete Activities for those - either that or tell her I need to be around if she wants to fire up one of her old favorites...

One other thing I wound up doing - since my electronics cabinet, light controller, projector/lens, and Masquerade all have their IR inputs in different locations in the room, I wired up the HT to use the mini-blasters as ceiling mounted IR extenders.

One is in line and pointed at the Carada Masquerade, the other is in line and pointed at the projector/lens. The side-facing transmitters on the latter unit point right at the lighting controller, so every device gets sprayed with a good IR wash. Works great.

Hopefully they are working on some new materials. A acoustic screen from them would be nice. David Giles comes on the forums so maybe he can inform us on whats next for Carada.

So where is all the action on this thread? I would have expected the Carada CIH system thread to really take off, given the growing popularity of 2:35:1 and Carada offering such a great price/performance ratio relative to other companies.

I woulda bought one for sure if I went CIH.

I'm still loving my horizontal Masquerade system, which I employ in my 4 way masking system. I wouldn't want to be without it. Plus, I found I've been able to program various intermediate stopping points using a universal remote with macros!
