Guess you didn't have your machine rendered inoperable as I did...two weeks to NJ and back before I could watch anything after uploading the "update"...Yea, I think I"ll be a little cautious about future "updates"...

Did you guys notice on samsung's firmware update page for this player where it lists the firmware history for this player and what each firmware does? 2.09 is not on the list anymore! They tried to nix v2.09 from our memories and history. I know that for many here, v2.09 will be a version that lives in infamy!

Here's an off the wall question that I don't recall being discussed here yet. Does anyone know how to modify/hack this player so that it will output 1080p over component? I understand that the "limitation" of 720p for component is inflicted by a copy right restriction only and not a hardware limitation.

2.09 has been nothing but trouble for me. Had to disable BD-Live then do a reset before I could play anything reliably.

Well, that's what I tried, but it doesn't recognize that a usb stick is in there

Just tried watching Prince of Persia with the new firmware 2.12 installed. In the movie, everyone is after this magic dagger that can turn back time 20 seconds. Well, Samsung does that for us without any magic...just crap firmware. When you are watching the movie, everything seems fine and then the little chapter notifier pops up (a warning sign). About two minutes later, the movie instantly jumps back a few minutes without warning and you realize that you're rewatching something you just watched. The movie will then continue going along and do the same thing at some future point in the movie. I tried stopping the disc, taking it out...same thing. It's not like the disc is even loaded with bonus features either...it's got a lousy deleted scene, but it has a flashy java menu. Come on, people...

Wld anyone know if the new 2.12 Firmware will correct the issue of the 3600 not being able to "see" and play MKV files from my USB stick?

Doesn't recognize it at all? Are you copying the zipped file, or the contents of the zipped file onto your USB? You do have to use the remote to access the USB stick, just like you were going to watch a video from it.

There is no issue with the 3600 seeing or playing MKV files from a USB stick. I have had every firmware version over the last year, and have always been able to view MKV from my USB. There must be something else going on with your player.

For a firmware upgrade, the USB stick must be formatted as FAT.

I also have been playing MKV files from a USB stick for quite some time.

I may have gotten in on this thread late, as I had the same experience with The Green Zone, and had sent it back for another copy. The new copy would not play either and I found this site, hoping it would provide a fix.

I read most of the suggestions, and decided to experiement with some of the settings as others had suggested. I found that by going in to the Network setting and changing the BD setting to Prohibit worked for me. I have the BD-3600, anyway for those of you who may be still having problems give it a shot.

I have been able to watch .AVI files, play MP3's and view JPG's from the USB memory stick.

About a month ago, I copied a few MKV files onto the stick. They are NOT listed as being present when viewing. In addition, prior to placing on the stick, I ensure that the MKV's can be viewed by VLC and/or Windows Media Player.

I discovered this forum, trying to find a solution and seem to recall someone else having the same problem.

Thus the question for the 2.12 Firmware update..............Kliph

BTW: I have not updated ANY firmware, my 3600 is about 6 months old

Although I have no issues with viewing MKV files, I cannot get my 3600 to view MP4 files. They don't even show up on the USB, like yours with MKV files.

Yeah, what the heck is up with that, huh? Manual states it does, and I think someone posted a while back that they can play them on theirs. maybe I'll call Samsung.

I've never been able to see MP4s either. The only problems I have with MKVs is some I'm not able to fast forward, only view. Others I can fast forward just fine. I suspect it has to do with the profile used to encode it.

My Samsung 3600 is not loading BluRay discs. It recently could not load 2 separate copies of Pirate Radio. Now it cannot load Public Enemies.

By "not loading" I mean the player locks up before it displays the main menu. It is completely unresponsive to keys and remote commands and must be rebooted.

I have the latest firmware (2.09).

My questions are:
1) Is this specific to these movies (i.e. has anyone had trouble with these releases)?
2) Is this inconsistency typical of the BD format?
3) Is this inconsistency typical to this make/model?

I'm ready to toss something out of the window, but I'm not sure what.

Any ideas?

2.09 is a problem firmware - the newest version is 2.12 - see the Samsung site for download.

You are correct, the LATEST version is 2.12. I just spent the most frustrating 2 weeks with my Samsung 3600 ... all because the August 7th-dated firmware upgrade had a problem and nobody on chat or phone support were aware of it. I just downloaded 2.12 and it worked fine.

Over 5 attempts in mid-August with RESET of player, then memory-stick upgrade attempt, CD upgrade attempt, and finally, a Samsung-created CD sent from my 2nd chat session arrived today and NONE would load. Kept getting "Error Found in Upgrade Data. Please Try Again" on the screen.
After being told this afternoon by Samsung's phone support that my out-of-warranty unit needed to be returned for $110 factory work, plus S/H, I decided to chuck it and buy a less buggy unit. As a last resort tonight, I checked the site, lo & behold there's an Aug 28 release v2.12. I have no idea why Samsung's chat support and phone support folks, friendly as they are, hadn't a clue to this. Regardless, 2.12 seems to work and several of my disc-play-specific problems have been cleared up.

Are other manufacturers' upgrades this fraught with peril?

Is there anyway at all now or in the future that Hulu is going to work on hte Samsung BD-P3600?

I bought this several months ago and find myself primarily streaming Netflix. If I could get Hulu on there it would be perfect. I've researched PlayOn but I've got a mac...

If not is there another blue-ray player that will?

Although I have v2.12 now, I was able to play Public Enemies when I had v 2.09.

I upgraded firmware to 2.12 and it worked. I can now load/play Public Enemies. I assume this was the cause of previous movies not loading also.

I am curious as to why the "Check for Updates" feature did not work (with wired or wireless connection). It returned the value "you have the latest version". I know the connection is valid because I can stream Pandora & Netflix. So the problem must be with Samsung's server.

It seems I must hit their web site occasionally to check for updates. Lame.

Yeah I saw that...kind of pricey though. Is there ANY chance that Samsung will update the BD-P3600??? If not I might just buy the Apple TV when it comes out...

Oh and does the 6900 support Hulu Plus?

I found that the problems with MKV files that do not let you do fast forwarding or backwarding is because they were muxed by program MKVMERGE (MKVTOOLNIX) with version above the 3.3.0.
So, if you want your MKV files doing fast farwarding or fast backward, you will need to find a copy of MKVTOOLNIX up to version 3.3.0 and then you will need to mux the file again.
Ah, and the last version (4.2.0) doesn't even let you play the MKV files, since it introduced, as standard, the compression for headers, video and audio. You have to set "compression=none" when you mux files with mkvmerge 4.2.0 if you want them played on the Samsung BD-P3600.

Interesting about the problems with files muxed with versions post 3.3.

I've switched to WDTV from the 3600 largely because of reliability problems with MKV playback. Although there's currently a problem on WDTV with files muxed with compression turned on in MKVMerge, in general it's a much better experience than the 3600. In particular, embedded MKV subtitles work, you don't have to restart the video after pausing for two minutes, and even if you do restart it remembers where you were (although I do miss the time advance feature on the Samsung, which the WDTV doesn't have). IMHO Samsung has really blown it with their media playback support - they could be well positioned in the market with a consolidated bluray and media player but now the door's been opened to other devices.

Isn't the Samsung HT-BD1150 the same model as this? It's this model with a home theater system integrated into it.

Also, with the current 2.09 firmware, my player can't play AVCHD disks. Does anyone know if past versions of the firmware allowed this support? Or does anyone know any workarounds to get it to play them?

Mine played fine with v2.09. I actually did not encounter any of the posted issues with v2.09. I have since moved on to v2.12. Have you tried updating to v2.12 and see if they will play on yours then?

I just updatd with 2.41...and it STILL WON'T play AVCHD discs. Note that I use tsmuxer and imgburn for my discs.
