1.2 or 1.3 HDMI

Thread Starter
I am new to the HDMI world. I just bought a PJ (Panny Ax200) and I was curious if I need to get the 1.3 HDMI, or if the 1.2 are sufficeint?

I searched the threads as much as I could find on this subject. If you know where it is covered better, please let me know as well.

The basement will be painted and tiled this weeked, carpet next week. So, I am getting really close to getting everything finished. ]

The PJ will be about 35' from the AVR running through the cieling and wall. (I over measured about 3' - 4' extra on each end so that there will be enough slack on both ends.) The TV will be 25' from the AVR (Same for slace as PJ). My current receiver doesn't have HDMI, (I will be upgrading most likely to the Emotiva Processor when they come out.) But the PJ has the HDMI, and I will be getting a Blue Ray player as well.

My dilemia is that it seems at Mono Price they don't have any 1.3 HDMI cable at 35'. They seem to stop at 25'. So, would the 1.2 versions work as well, seeing that the PJ isn't 1080P?

My HDD player had the upcovert throught HDMI, and I would have the same dilemia. I may also buy a cheaper upconvert regular DVD as well.

I will most likely route the HDD, DVD, & BR to a switch, then to the PJ or TV.

So, the short runs aren't a problem, but the longer ones I am not so sure about?

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't believe there are any HDMI cables over 25' that are certified for category 2 (high speed). For long distance I believe some of the best cable is the Beldon Bonded Pair from Blue Jeans Cable. If you can afford that, I would use it for your longest runs. It should be good for 1080i and may even work for 1080p.

Gingus,
Monoprice claims to pass 1080P on their 35ft 1.2 HDMI cables - I use one of these and they work great, albeit, I am not attempting to pass the new HD Audio formats along the cable as well, only the video. Here is a good URL for reference:

Good luck!

OK I'll look at the Blue Cable and I will also look at the monoprice cable. I guess I could just see if the 25ft cable fits, and see if I don't need the extra length. .

Thanks.

tartan for prices similar to monoprice...

bluejeans for a few bucks more...

both are owned by the same person, and kurt deserves our business, since he doesn't practice "cable voodoo"...
