The update was done properly my tv even shows i have the new firmware just doesnt fully fix it unfortunatly.
You have to make sure to turn Advanced Contrast Enhancer to low or off. I find that low makes auto-dim so insignificant, that it is un-noticeable. I haven't tried it but I'm sure turning ACE off will completely eliminate auto-dim.
I wouldn't be so quick to negatively criticize this very significant firmware update. It has made a world of difference, IMHO. I suppose because my XBR2 has an auto iris feature, I may not notice it as much as others but I'm here to say that it has really changed the way I look at the V5100.
For example, I had mentioned that if I go to a vacant AVR input and mute my Onkyo AVR, the flashing 'muting' graphic would cause the blue screen to flash significantly. It does not flash at all now.
Everyone should chime in on what they think. From the first 6 pages of this thread, I'm sure that many prospective buyers would be turned off by the auto dimming 'feature' Now that it has been all but eliminated, I feel this display is a very strong contender in its class.
