You would think as big as a corporation as Sony is they would have it fixed by now. Wouldnt you?

"big as a corporation as Sony" - that's the problem!

I have the same problem downloading from the website
Is it really necassary? I installed the e3 update that was provided on this forum.
Does the Sony officially released firmware have any additional tweaks?

If sony doesn't fix it soon then i suggest everyone call CS and have them send it out on a thumb drive... maybe Sony will get the message!!!!!!
I don't believe the 'official' update tweaks anything more...I think it's the 'un-official' update, finally made 'official'...yet still not easily obtained.

i downloaded the new update from the sony website, the first time i downlaoad the update it gives me an arror, and i try it back again after the 2nd time i got the files. but i am wondering what are the updates for this firmware. ty

Sony now has two FW revisions listed, one dated 4/20, the other 4/22. Both have the same FW version (ER4.12-E3) and description, but the file size is different and neither link is working
post #4387 of 4647
has anyone been able to download the file and install it? i queued it up with the sony taxi thingy in an attempt to circumvent their current problems (file not found) and chickened out as i didn't want to install more sony crud just to download a fw file.

i did. and my tv works fabulous!

I don't know how you downloaded the latest firmware...at least not for the 52" model because I still receive the link error when clicking the Accept Agreement link. And like the earlier message posted here, there are two files listed with the same name but a slightly different file size.

For some reason the file for the 55" set was put in the 52" category
post #4391 of 4647
Good news for the 52" folks. The firmware now updates and there is just the one file listed. So, someone did make the corrections. Good. Here's the link I just used:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...mdl=KDL52V5100
post #4392 of 4647
Yeah, I noticed the fw link for the 52" now working -- I downloaded the firmware and loaded it up on a USB stick but am still too scared to install it. More guinea pigs first!
The one for the 46 inch seems to be working now too
post #4394 of 4647
At least it sounds as though Sony FINALLY has gotten their act together. I can't believe it has taken this long to fix an issue that was there from day 1. My 52" has been working flawlessly since October '10, when I was first given the beta version to test...so...I wouldn't hesitate to install the update.
Downloaded it today, the links were not working, so Sony online tech support gave me the following link:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...mdl=KDL52V5100

CoolOwl's link also works. Maybe they got the download links fixed.

The 4/20/2011 update is for the 52V5100. This is the correct one.

Not sure why they have a second firmware update listed dated 4/22/2011. This is for a 55" set.

Just be sure to follow the instructions posted on the Sony support site to reset HDMI input sources.

Had the TV running all day and not one audio drop out. Finally, looks like Sony stepped up and corrected this issue!!
I installed the update for the 40V5100 and it went smoothly. I never had any issue with audio drop-outs maybe because I use the HT-SS370 home theater system.

However there is one thing I noticed: it takes now much longer to establish the HDMI connection when switching inputs especially to my BDP-S360 bluray player. Has anybody experienced this?

Btw, I switched off all the components for several minutes in order to make sure all HDMI chips resetted.
I just installed the latest FW update on my 52V5100 and all went smoothly.

I have one word of caution: make sure you make note of any custom parameters prior to the install because they will all be reset to factory defaults.

I was operating for about a month with ER4.11_E328 prior to this revision and experienced no audio drop-outs during this period.
I've forgotten what custom parameters are. What might I have set that I don't remember? Would these be the Picture values for brightness, etc.? Or are there other things? Thanks.
I just did the update on my 46V5100.

It reset everything. My custom and even all my digital channels and all I get is the analog.

Scanning for digital took me 45 minutes.

I write down all my setting. I use someone else profile here and I love it and I stick with it. My eyes are use to it already. You got to do that.
I think Sony might have broke something with this update.

Are you in TV mode?

When I flip thru HD channel and none HD channel, my color profile change. It turns out on TV channel setting, HD and non-HD are two different profile now.

Bascially 2.1 (HD) is different from 2.0(non-HD) but same channel and that is 2 separate profile just for that ????

Did you people notice this?

They would be all of your settings for backlight, color temp, etc. Basically, everything in the menus on the TV. I always have mine noted in a txt file on my computer, so if it is necessary to set them again, I have the ones I liked to refer to.

I performed the latest firmware update on the 52" V5100 and all is well. I disconnected the soundbar just to see if the popping sounds were indeed gone when changing from HD to SD TV signal and they are. Installing the update is a big deal since the warnings are so severe. It took me a week to think it over.

When you first start the update, a message on the TV screen says that another message will come on telling you when the update is complete. But that second message never happened. However, one of the little lights on the front panel of the TV change from amber to green and that seemed like a good sign. I waited an additional ten minutes and finally removed the flash drive. That caused the TV to reboot and it came on.

I then performed the disconnecting/reconnecting of TV and HDMI components as instructed. All seems well. Just wanted to let those of you still considering your decision that it worked fine on my TV.

If someone has new values in the calibration of the image after firmware update, share it would be convenient to all

Did you unplug everything from the TV and the electric and allow everything to reset? Unplug all devices, cable boxes, bluray players, everything and let them reset, then plug them back in. If I turn on the TV first before turning on the DVR it gets a better handshake so try that too.

You can also try turning your HDMI Control to 'OFF'...on all components that have it. Sometimes, components fight for control, and they don't fight nice...

I think you can use it, but only have it 'ON' on the device you want to control all the others with. Otherwise, they fight for control, hence the handshake problem.

At least, that's how I understand it...there are far more knowledgeable here than I, for sure...
