I am not sure if it really improved. I still believe that with this firmware update the HDMI handshake has become less robust
(Not that it was very robust before).
I have all Sony components (KDL-40V5100, BDP-S360, HT-SS370, PS3) and I hoped that at least this setup would work flawlessly.
I am interested to hear from others if their experience with this firmware update compared to the previous one made certain things worse.
After observing the situation for several weeks, I decided to revert back to ER4.12-E2, the previous firmware version. Although Sony claims this is not possible, I had no problem doing that. Even all the settings were retained. I performed the usual HDMI reset (unplug, etc.).
I have to say the HDMI control / BraviaSync works significantly better now than with the ER4.12-E3 newer firmware. Since I use a sound system (Sony HT-SS370), I never had an issue with audio drop outs.
However the one thing that has never worked as expected is when the TV goes black and reestablishes the HDMI connection. This can happen in the middle of playing a game (on the PS3, very annoying
or during a movie (DVD or blu ray on the BDP-S360). Even turning HDMI control off on all components does not make a difference. Seems like an HDMI handshake problem.
The only solution I heard that work is using component cables, but this totally defeats the purpose and makes the integration of the sound system much more difficult.
If anybody has an idea how to avoid these spontaneous black-outs, I would be grateful to hear.
