Our tv's maybe "old" as you say but they are only 2 years old so they aint that "old" and hell mine still delivers excellent PQ and thats all I care about. No they dont have all the features of the new high end models but for me I dont need 3D, Widgets, Internet connectivity and all that other stuff. But like you I to would love to know how you can get the previous firmware version because I liked the Bravia synce feature so if you can help me get it I would appreciate it. SO LET ME KNOW HOW AND WHERE YOU GOT IT!!!!!

Hi guys, ever since I upgraded to the latest firmware I've had this frustrating HDMI problem.

Last night watching a VoD program, all of a sudden out of the blue I got a blank screen saying "HDMI - No signal".

I tried everything - power cycle, disconnect and reconnect HDMI cable, swapped out HDMI cables, reset my receiver and the TV's setting to default ... and it took over 30 minutes until the picture came back.

I had to restart the VoD movie, FFWD to the same spot, only to have the same thing happen to me after 15 min.

I never had HDMI problem THIS bad before the firmware upgrade ... I used to lose HDMI signal now and then when switching resolution, but never when I'm just watching, and never took this long to recover.

I heard disabling HDMI Control may fix this ... so I'll try that tonight.

Anything else you guys recommend?

I do like how the new firmware completely fixes the red flash problem, which was still somewhat noticeable in the last release ... but it's not worth it if I lose the picture every 15-30min and takes 30 min to recover.

My KDL-5100 TV is connected to a Sony HT-CT100 sound bar btw ...

You have to disable the Bravia sync feature to stop making this happen. The last firmware update Sony did is the reason for this happening and since I turned Bravia sync off I have had no issues. Trust me I have made Sony aware of the issue but now the question is is will they fix it?

Yeah I turned HDMI Control Off and all seems fine so far. There are some inconvenience (I used to use the "Theatre" button a lot, which switches sound to external audio system, changes the pic mode to Cinema ... but I can deal with that.

It's good to know at least the red flashing problem is gone.

I never had the red flashing issue or at the very least I never noticed it and as for the Bravia sync feature? My controller from Directv pretty much controlls all the features I use so I am not that upset with the Bravia sync being messed up but knowing its there does bother me a bit. What I noticed since the new update is the PQ. It seems to be better then it was before unless its because I used the settings from Home Theater Magazine on my tv. Colors just pop and the blacks are awsome and maybe thats why it looks better PQ wise I dont know.

I need help, its the weekend and I am with out my TV!

Hopefully someone can help me decide whats wrong or who to fix my TV.

It's a KDL-40V5100

Main Problem:
Tried update now,
-TV is black
-Orange timer and red standby lights on.
-Factory reset hasn't worked
-Called tech support no luck their.

They are sending me update in the mail so I am out of TV for 7-10 days. I have tried numerous different flash drives and re download the file to see if the update would start again with no luck. I am 90 percent sure its the TV not a firmware issue. But Sony wont help tell the flashdrive arrives.

Anyone else experience this problem, or know what Sony's policy if their update made my TV unusable, send tech guy, or better new TV?

Ugh, sorry to hear about your bad fortune there. Wish I could help but my only suggestion is to make sure there is no power to the TV for a few minutes (unplug everything connected to the TV...then unplug the TV from the wall. Wait a couple of minutes. Then plug the TV into the wall first and try turning it on. Sounds silly enough but who knows? Kind of like a reset, you know?

It does sound like the firmware got interupted and didn't totally update itself. I'll be rooting for you.

It sounds like the firmware didnt have a chance to complete itself while uploading and if thats the case then this is why your tv is doing what its doing. Try doing what coolowl suggested and hope for the best. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for the quick responses!!

I unplugged everything and let it sit for 10 minutes then plugged the TV back in and still no change, the two lights are still on. Let it sit all night unplugged hoping that maybe some slight chance this would help so I could get my TV back (the back up 20" I have to use just isn't the same) and still nothing.

I'm thinking the firmware didn't finish so now it is froze. Guess Ill have to wait for the pointless flash-drive to come so I can call Sony and tell them it really is the TV and I really didn't download the firmware from some 3rd party site and it really came from Esupport.

Guess if its "broke" that would make a good point to the wife that we should invest in a new LED TV

Sorry to hear whats happened and it sucks. I would say the only thing you can do is wait for Sony to send you the firmware and see if that works. If not good luck on trying to convince the wife on getting a new tv. I know its a great reason to do it.

Just thought I would let you all know....TV IS FIXED!!!!!!

Needles to say I am very happy right now, Sony's flashdrive arrived today plugged it in to the TV then plugged the TV AC in and what do you know the update started over and finished this time. I was really surprised it worked really thought it was broke for good. Only thing I can think of is all 3 of my flashdrives weren't comparable with the TV lesson learned-When ever doing an update have Sony send it to you-

Anyone have the old firmware for the KDL-40V5100? I'm on 4.12E3 and it keeps dropping my HDMI signal even without HDMI Control on.

I haven't had any problems with my 40V5100, except I didn't think it looked as good after getting an LG475600. I just read thru some here to change some settings and it looks much better.
Appears there are many here with bigger problems. I guess I won't do a firm ware upgrade. I have a Sony bluray and sound bar and would hate to lose the integrated remote control.

These sound like the same problem I have. It started for me with the new firmware ER4.12-E3. So nice not to have the red flash, but this is worse. I've tried the instructions to unplug everything HDMI and power (did it overnight). And plug it back in. No luck.

Classic,

Turn the Bravia synce feature off and it wont do it again.

Hello! that is the latest version, which unfortunately totally sucks.

Sony Support is useless. They create a firmware that is crap and causes major issues, then they tell you that there is nothing they can do.

Hi glockz, I am not sure if that will work cause it is for the 46" screen, but I will check and let you know.

SAVE it though. Apparently when Sony comes out with an update, they delete all prior updates and will not give them to you.

Can you post the file you have so I can download it and try.

Any of you guys have over the air HD amplified antennas hooked up to this TV? We tried and it wouldn't "scan" for new channels. For now had to use a converter box which allows it to have tv but as you know it looks like regular poor tv quality. Every time we try to connect directly antenna to tv it doesn't seem to work.

Sony KDL52V5100 using an antenna like this philips mounted outdoor on a 8ft pole over the roof line. We are in the boonies lol.

I am using the "unofficial" firmware that fixed the red flashing issue. I never upgraded beyond that one as it has been working flawlessly and I didn't want to risk something else breaking.

It works great and I've never had any issues with it at all. The over-the-air HD picture is fantastic (much better than cable in my area). I don't recall having to do anything special with it other than hook up the antenna and run the scan. As I recall, it found all the ATSC channels automatically.

Actually, even though it is an "omni-directional" antenna, I did have to rotate it until it could receive all the channels in my area.

Is it possible you are too far away from the stations to receive the digital broadcast?

Perhaps you can describe in detail the steps you have taken and I might be able to offer a suggestion?

Put the converter box inline is the only way to get picture. I somehow think its the antenna needing the power injector inline it's not "seeing" an antenna when connected directly.

Think I need a better antenna, so been looking at channel master 3018 recently is more realistic size wise I think. Just hoping to get all digital with something like this.

Are you saying that the power injector isn't connected or working properly? If it is similar to mine, the antenna won't work without the injector. The injector has a red light on it to let you know when it is plugged in and working correctly. Be sure that there is no splitter or anything else between it and the antenna.

Also, as you mentioned, it could be that you are too far away from the stations to pick up the signal. However, that doesn't really explain why the converter box can pick up the stations, and the TV can't. Sorry I don't have more ideas.

If you haven't done so already, be sure to go to http://www.antennaweb.org/ and plug in your address so you can aim your antenna correctly (and verify you have the correct antenna type for your location).

Oh, also be sure to set the TV to Antenna mode in the Channel menu screen (*not* set to Cable).
