Help Me Decide

Thread Starter
I've read and read alot of the posts here and elsewhere and can't seem to pull the trigger on a htib. I've narrowed it down to several choices and just wanted to see what you guys think is the best overall:

Samsung HT-As720
Onkyo HT-S6100
Onkyo HT-SR800
Yamaha YHT-390
Yamaha YHT-590

The primary use will be for PS3 gaming and movie watching (with the ps3) and i also want to connect my cable settop box to it. I have a samsung 1080p lcd so that is why the samsung system is on the list but i've read the anynet feature is pretty much useless.

TIA

(p.s. i don't want to buy separates or a sound bar)

From personal experience I would say to get the Samsung AS720. Sure it is a little limited with the connections in the rear and it as the handshake issue with the PS3 at times, but I think it sounds fantastic. Let the PS3 decode the HD audio and send it over via LPCM and you are all set. The components seem like top quality for a HTIB in this price range and the sub really puts out some good bass. If you can find one at Circuit City on clearance, you'll get a great deal on it. As you stated the Anynet feature is pretty lame and rarely works. Good luck with your choice.

I have the Onkyo HT-S6100, and would highly recommend it. The receiver decodes all Dolby and DTS formats, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio, and allows for direct PCM, as well. The speakers are very good for HTiB speakers. These systems are very popular, and often are out of stock at most major retailers. Right now Vann's has them in stock for $549 with no tax and free shipping.
