will this sub damage my reciever

ok i have an harman kardon hk440vxi (old but sounds amazing) running Bic venturi dv62si speakers, and i want to know if connecting my sony sa-wx700 (dual 10" 250 watt) sub will damage my h\\k reciever

the reason i think it might is my sub runs at 3 ohms and my speakers run at 8 ohms would this equal a unbalanced load if i run it on the 2nd zone of my reciever.if needed i can run the enitre system at 4 ohms. and my reicver being from 1988 deos not have pre- amp outputs for a sub.

please help me out

The 3 ohm load is on the subs amp, not your h/k. The subs amp inputs are somewhere between 20k and 50k ohms. You will have to use the speaker level inputs and outputs on the sub, but you can find a lot of setup/hook up instructions in this forum.

ok thank you
the way its hooked up now is i have the sub on zone 2 and the mains on zone 1 but my dad said that equals an unbalanced load and would damage the reciever,i was pritty shure that the 3 ohm rating on the sub wasnt going to harm my reciever, but i wanted to make shure.

i would rather not use the line level out-puts on my sub because i would like a strait signal path from the reciever to the mains. if needed i can run everthing on zone one and just have two sets of cables coming out of it, one going to the sub and one set going to my mains

So how are you blending the sub with the mains? If you run them both full range, which you don't have a choice using 2 separate outputs, then you will get combined output from your speakers low end up to your subs high end.

I think all of us feel the same way about whatever equipment we currently have: "not the best but good enough to last until i can afford a better one"

I love reading the consumer reviews of some of these products. There is a very "professional" sounding review in the first link you posted (the first review on the page from "basslover33") where he gushes about this sub and even seriously claims at one point:
"Running both subs at high volumes will crack the foundation of the house. "

LOL, gotta love it!

You will be fine using the B speaker outputs for the Sony sub.The speaker level inputs present a very high impedance load to the amp therefore very little draw.Hold on to that HK receiver !

oh i am

we have had it since i was born and it still sounds and works beautifully, my dad had it connected to hafler 200's. i have it running B.I.C venturi dv62si's.

i didnt think that it would harm the reviever but i wanted to make shure.

unfortunately, for me now i have an itch to connect the bic dv64 towers that i have connected to my 7.1 pioneer receiver to my h\\k
