Philips 42PFL7422D/37 - VERY high failure rate

This should end up as a class action suit. The same story over and over again on the Consumer Affairs website linked below.

It is now well understood (and admitted by Philips) that the 42PFL7422D/37 and a variety of related designed TV's are experiencing a very high power supply failure rate. Two filter capacitors on the power supply board are prone to failing and thus changing their filter value. The TV will turn on for a while then shut down and go to blinking red light. Wait a while and it will start up again only to repeat the failure at various lengths of time.

Most units are out of warranty when it starts to happen, so the repairs are running around $500+. If the replacement board has the same caps as the original, yup....it will fail again in about a years time. The best repair is to buy a new power supply board and REPLACE the faulty capacitors with quality caps before installing in the TV.

Beware of the refurbished units as well. The unit may still have filter caps that could fail in a years time. There is no way of knowing unless you pull it apart and have a look see.
