Help with options for 5.1 system for new basement

New to the board and looking for some help. Just finished a basement and need some ideas for the speaker/receiver system. I was going to go with a Onkyo HT-S5100 and ditch two of the speakers, but then I'd have to make cutouts to hold the speakers (don't want mounts). Would prefer in-wall speakers in black.

Looking to spend around $500 for the 5 speakers, woofer, and receiver if possible. Here's the layout I'd like and the progress:

Thanks guys!

www.thespeakercompany.com

They have a pretty good selection of in-wall speakers.

I think you might be hard pressed to find a reciever, a sub and 5 in wall speakers for around $500. Most equipment in that range are the HTIB's like that onkyo setup. The inwall speakers you could probably fit into that budget...and if you added a little on top you could probably get a decent low end reciever. But depending on what your expectations are...in a room that large i think you will be dissapointed with any subwoofer that would fit that budget. I know you said you didnt want wall mount speakers...but to be honest a higher quality HTIB would probably be your best choice IMO for that budget.

If you dont mind me asking why do you want in wall versus wall mount? Is it shearly a space issue? or aesthetics?

Yeah mostly aesthetics. Newegg.com has the Onkyo HT-S6100 for $550, that's how I got to that price. You're right:

IW-D5-LCR-3-Piece-In-Wall-Loudspeaker-System-P12C11 - Front
IW-8-Pair-8-In-Wall-Speakers-P10C11 - Rear
ASW-10-10-Subwoofer - Woof

$370.00

For $550.00 that would only leave $180.00 for a receiver.

I can stretch to $700-800. Just seeing what my options are for low budget. I don't want to put out $400 for a receiver to lose the value in average speakers either.

With those speakers Id think 400 dollars is right on track for a decent reciever. I was just tooling around and come across this

hard to go wrong with pioneer...400 bucks at vanns.com

If you get a decent reciever you can always upgrade "speaker at a time" later on if your budget increases.

Check out onkyo's online store for a receiver. 5.1 can be had for under $200.00 and I would then go to parts express and check these out, Dayton ES65W 6-1/2" 2-Way In-Wall Speaker Pair. You can then pick up a Polk sub or something of the sort for about $100.00 Just to start you out. All this is a good starting point for what you requested and should come in under $600.00.

IW-D5 LCR - 3 Piece In-Wall Loudspeaker System is not a bad deal either from the speaker company, add a pair of inwall surrounds and your in a 5.0 inwall speaker system for around $200.00
