Panasonic EH-75 and TV Guide Problems

I did a search and did not find an answer to my problem. If I missed a relevant thread, please (politely) point me there.

My EH-75 is connected directly to an antenna. It has worked fine for a couple of years. Last night I lost the TV Guide function so no programs recorded as scheduled. I thought this might be a temporary issue with TV Guide.

This morning I have the same problem. But I went ahead and ran the channel memorizer. It memorized every channel without discrimination over signal strength. I can't remember how do delete unwanted stations.

Suggestions? Is this a TV Guide issue or a problem with my Panasonic?

TV world has advanced to digital and you are left behind

Please read about TVGOS on these forums, you may even stumble on some workarounds.

Thank you. The TVGOS thread is very long and I have not finished it but early in the thread I found this:

To find out what the host station is, enter the guide, then click over to the "Setup" menu, then down to highlight the first item without actually opening it. Enter the magic number 753159852. This takes you into the TVGOS debugging screens. Click right once, and you'll see a screen that includes an entry for "Host Chan". For me, it reads "0:0-29" which indicates that the host channel is 29, one of my local PBS stations.
I have a Panasonic DMR-EH75V, but I think the procedure is the same for any TVGOS unit."

I did that and found the host listed as "None". Some users on the other thread recently had their host channel disappear and then reappear after a couple of days. I still have hope.

I did skip to the last two pages. That is where I noted some stations temporarily stopped broadcasting TV-Guide while they made system changes.

The EH75V requires an analog station to broadcast TVGOS data. In some areas the TVGOS host station has already shut down its analog signal as part of the DTV transition. The rest will follow on June 12, unless of course Congress decides to extend the deadline again.

I've seen reports that some analog stations that are still on the air have already discontinued sending TVGOS data. Perhaps your TVGOS host station is one of them.

Or maybe your TVGOS host station intends to carry on until June 12, but is simply having a temporary glitch right now.

Without knowing where you are, and more specifically what your TVGOS host station is, it's impossible to say which one of these explanations fits you.

I am having the same problem with my panansonic recorder. I am hooked into Comcast. This only happened a few weeks ago. So there is no way to get the TV Guide info back?

If you're using cable rather than OTA, there's also the possibility that your TVGOS host station is still sending the data OTA, but your cable company is losing it somehow. For example, they might have converted that channel from analog to digital.

I'm confused. Will my TVGOS work again if I buy a digital converter box?

Only the Dish DTVPal converter box converts TVGOS data from digital channels for use with TVGOS devices such as the EH75 that receive only analog channels. There's been at least one report on these forums that someone has gotten this conversion to work, but I don't have a link handy.

Note (if necessary) that coupon-eligible converter boxes (CECBs) like the DTVPal are only for OTA broadcasts, not cable.

What does that mean? My DirecTV tv guide is gone forever?

DirecTV receivers get their guide via satellite so they are not affected by the digital transition.

If you are referring to the DirecTV guide on your DVD recorder, then you may lose that or you may be able to retain it with a Dish DTVPal connected to an off-air antenna. It's too early to tell.
