Hello everyone! This is my first post here. I'm going to buy that card to replace creative x-fi titanium. I've got two questions for those who already own it.
1. Is it mandatory to pass video from videocard through soundcard? Or it will be working without this connection? Does it list as HDMI output audio device in Windows 7's "Playback devices" tab so I can connect ffdshow to it?
2. I've read somewhere that this soundcard works only with supplied media player with it. Is it so? So no audio out through standard system audio stack?
Could someone also make similar screenshot but with Xonar Slim onboard please? (see attached image)
---Background info down there. Lots of letters
I have Sony DA2400ES reciever and Radeon 5870 which has built in HDMI out and built in realtek soundcard. This onboard soundcard passes to my receiver whatever sound format I feed it and this receiver eats almost everything I have in my collection. When format isn't compatible ffdshow decodes it and outputs it as 5.1 or 7.1 PCM which is also ok. When I'm not watching movies windows outputs 7.1 PCM. All games and software (including directsound ones) doesn't even notice it and think that I have simple analog system. So no problems with sound at all. BUT. There's always one sad "but"
Crappy ATI driver drives me mad. When I switch receiver to another input or shut the TV down everything starts blinking for a second (as if I've changed desktop resolution). When I connect videocard directly to the TV it doesn't notice when I shut down the TV. So I need to connect TV using one HDMI cable and with help of that card connect another HDMI cable to output sound to receiver.
Thanks in advance!
