psp 3000 model compatibale with which video files

which video files are compatibale with the PSP 3000 models. i tried sending some video files over to my psp and wont player ive tried different video file types and none work. someone told me i should have gotten the 2000 model isntead it reads more video and audio files. i dont know if thats true or not.
