Alternative to iMon? Nice IR receiver options

I'm using the antec multimedia basic (just an IR receiver) that runs iMON. I went with this option for the 'polished' look and I am thinking about bailing out on it and going with an external USB hookup instead. I may mod the 2.5 cover and install the external USB receiver. I have a problem with iMON locking up for a few minutes (it does come back to earth without a restart) and the way the actual receiver is recessed in the case makes the line of sight rather limited.

If you end up swapping receivers, take some pictures and tell us how it went. I'm dying to try removing that cancerous iMon myself.

I actually went ahead and did this myself.

I successfully transplanted the Adesso IR receiver into the iMON bay without disrupting the LCD functionality.

Well its been almost 4 years already, so I wouldn't be expecting the tutorial anytime soon.

Well since this thread has already sort of been revived, does anyone have any updated information or suggestions? I have the exact same case and find iMon to be terrible as well. Only suggestion Ive heard of is eventghost...

Just disconnect the iMon and buy an HP IR MCE receiver. You can mount the receiver for better line-of-sight than the fixed placement of the built-in iMon. Better yet, use an RF or IP based remote and completely hide the receiver. With an IP remote you don't even need a receiver.
