Official Panasonic DMP-BD60/80 Owners Thread - Page 177

I think Winston's favorite in this price range is the JVC XV-BP1. That player doesn't have any streaming capabilities and you must do firmware updates via a memory stick. However, it has some usability features that the DMP-BD60 doesn't have like on the fly secondary audio and a seek feature to resume play at an exact time point, that you have jotted down. The JVC may also be faster loading, although I don't know of a comparison with the Panasonic updated with the latest firmware.

I cannot get Inglorious Basterds to play from the beginning on my BD-60. It will not go beyond the FBI warning and it freezes at the Universal legal disclosure. I can play the movie from a chapter stop. I have the 2.2 firmware.

Make sure you have ethernet plugged in, I've heard some discs choke when you don't have network plugged in for BD-Live. (Crank 2 for example)

I do have the ethernet plugged in.

Try removing the sd card, if you have one.

My netflix copy played just fine. Of course, I have both Internet and SD card for the player.

In the case of Crank 2, it's the SD card that was required. Internet connection doesn't matter.

If there is no such worthless thing as BD-Live, watching a BD movies can be more enjoyable and issue free. What would anyone trust any movie studios to create bug-free, if there is such thing, java programming.

I had problems with Inglourious basterds , no audio the first time I tried to play it. I had a SD card that had been erased on my PC and I noticed that hitting "status" on the BD60 was showing BD+SD . I formated the SD card on the BD60 and the audio came back. Don't ask me what the SD card has to do with the disk audio. Does anybody ow why status shows "BD+SD" ?

Using my Tivo I found that I have three titles in my video locker that are DD 5.1, Heros HD-Orientation/Jump,Push,Fall; Battlestar Galactica HD, Daybreak Pt2; and the Vampire Diaries HD, Pilot. They all play as DD 5.1 on the Tivo but I don't get 5.1 streaming on the Panny. Again, my connection speed really doesn't support HD at 1.5 Mbps so it isn't much of a test but one can always hope. So if anyone has a title in their Amazon locker the is DD 5.1 and a high speed internet it would be interesting to see if they get DD5.1.

I did another test with Inglorious Basterds. With the SD card inserted, the player hangs before starting the first chapter, right after the FBI warning. It stays in "play" with the warning about "some BD disks that may need firmware update, bla, bla, bla". I then removed the SD card and the player reloaded the disk and started playing.

After I removed the SD card I loaded it on my PC and realized there were hundreds of files recorded , all related to the movie, with many pictures and icons. That's probably what the player was doing when I thought it lo longer would play anything. I waited about 3 minutes before removing the SD card.

All I want is a player that plays all my bluray disks, is that asking too much ? With some disks that require a SD card and some that take several minutes to play unless I remove the card, I don't know what I should do. Turning off BD live will affect any disk playing ?
It's really not player's fault. It's the stupid BD-Live programs on those disc that are poorly designed.

Turning off BD-Live will be very annoying on BD60. Last time I did it, it constantly popup a warning message box everytime the player/movie tries to access BD-Live feature.

I am having the same problem with IB on my BD80. I timed it with the SD card in and at 9 and a half minutes I stopped the player. It was at the same point as the others, bluray firmware warning. I was able to play the movie if I went through the chapter section in the menu. With The SD card removed the movie starts at three and a half minutes, no problems. I also did this on my 60g PS3. Movie started, after I pressed play in the menu, at 4 minutes. So now what? Do we live with it or wait for the never ending latest and greatest firmware update? I am not a fan of BD-Live and wouldn't mind if it just went away.

I only have a 1MB internet connection, so the first time I load a BD-Live disk, it takes a long time before it is ready to play. Disabling BD-Live on the BD60 is not an option because of the warnings. What does work is to unplug the network cable AND disable BD-Live. Then I only get one network warning and it plays fine. BD-Live is a mess and should only be enabled on the disk if prompted to do so. It should be off by default.
There is nothing you can fix from the firmware of the player when the disc itself is authored to download a big chunk of data from movie studio servers first time you play that movie.

I remember when BD-Live was new and profile 2.0 players were rare, Iron Man was the big release with BD-Live and a lot of poor PS3 owners had to wait somewhere around 30 minutes before they can start watching the movie because the BD-Live server was choked the first day the movie released.

I just left BD Live enabled but removed my sd card. Now IB plays fine and doesnt hang on FBI logo and other warning. Shame its a crappy feature that ruins the experience.

After trying numerous discs, I finally had my first freeze last night on Monsters VS Aliens. Still haven't checked what firmware it has, though.

Before you make everybody nervous here, plesae tell us what is your firmware version. Was it a random (not repeatable) freeze ?

If they don't know, I bet it's not 2.2
The BD-80 I picked up a month ago at BB ago was 1.9

The BD80 I just bought from Panasonic direct (arrived last week) was 2.1. I doubt any units have been delivered with 2.2 yet.

Does anybody know if panasonic is phasing out the bd80? I can't find it anywhere on the internet. I was hoping Panasonic would make a wifi player soon.
Is there a way to make the display count down the time remaining in a movie instead of counting time played??????

A few pages back someone posted that there were a temp shortage of BD80 stock. New generations probably won't show up in stores until next spring.

The best I've come up with is to press STATUS twice. A bar graph will appear indication how much of the video has played & total time of the feature. You can do the math from there.

I just got the Panny BD60. All the Viera cast features work fine, but when I went into Amazon on Demand to get my registration code, I got either garled lines or a plain yellow screen - no data, no words, just either garbled lines or plain yellow.

I have not yet had a chance to pick up an SD card for this player. Could that be my issue? BTW, yes, I have updated the FW to 2.2

I have no issues receiving You Tube, Picassa, Bloomberg News, or weather - just Amazon on Demand.

Thanks in advance for any comments

Only think I know for sure is that you don't need any SD card to use Amazon. I set up my BD60 with Amazon without any card inserted. It can be some connection issue, try to hook up the player straight to the router (hardwired).

It is hardwired to the router. Panasonic tech support said it could be the lack of an SD card, but that answer didn't seem right.
