I bet that would brick the player, or wouldn't install.

What is latest version for BD60. I also have a PS3 and they get upgrades sometimes it appears weekly (not really) but they are pretty regular. I just hooked up my BD60 last week and was curious if it so has an upgrade once a month or so.

Thank you I did try to check setup and could not find version listed anywhere but it says I'm current.

I've tried copying the decompressed file in the latest software update to CD and get - 'windows encountered a problem copying this file.' I've downloaded it 3x from the Panasonic website and still get the same response. First time in 2 years I've encountered this problem.

EDIT:

FYI: Must have been a bad CD because I tried another and it took.

Go to Setup->Display then press the Status button on the remote. The firmware version will display in the lower right corner of the menu box.

Does anyone know if I can hook up both HDMI and component video at the same time? I want to use HDMI for audio into my (not yet purchased) receiver, but my display does not have HDMI, only component. Would this work? I only have 2 speakers so I don't care too much about surround, at least not yet. I'm thinking I will be upgrading my display next year.

(I did search, but I didn't really find the exact same situation).

Setup:

Panasonic DMP BD-60
into
Yamaha Receiver (just a pass through for switching)
Into
Infocus X1 Projector via VGA component input

For some reason when I play DVD's at 480p they sometimes have very light vertical lines that scroll from right to left. However if I pop in a blu ray disc and play at 1080i they disappear completely and I have yet to see them when playing a blu ray. I have had them disappear while watching a DVD. If it was a grounding issue it should show up when I play blu rays as well, correct? They're only slightly annoying as you can generally only see them when it's a dark screen.

This is EXACTLY how I use mine (well, except I have full 7.2 surround.) I had been using an old receiver with no HDMI until June when I purchased an Onkyo TX-NR5007 (which I LOVE btw) and I quickly discovered I could lose all the coax/toslink audio cables. So I have my BD60 connected to the receiver with both HDMI and Component video (for my legacy Pioneer Elite PRO510HD which has no HDMI interface) and the audio is nicely supplied and used over the HDMI interface no matter what output mode I use (HDMI to RS1x or YPbPr to Elite.) I use the same method from my HD Tivo, also. It really did eliminate lots of cables.

The only snafu I ran into in this config was that to use HD audio and video when running just the Elite over component, you have to go into the menu and disable the HDMI Video output mode (I think, sorry at work now so going by memory) otherwise with no HDMI display device to talk to it falls back to 480p and std DD/DTS only. Kind of a pain but I actually don't use it for HD with the Elite that much, we're always watching on the PJ.

All the same: "Cannot recognize disc. Check disc." DVD's play fine. It's just Blu-rays that don't play. Really unfortunate. Never had this problem with a DVD player. Finally tried updating to latest firmware. Nothing. Tried unplugging pwr for 1 min. Nothing. Same problem. Will try Panasonic tech support, but I'm not hopeful. Any ideas anyone?

The laser is not aligned properly anymore, I've had it happen twice. Both times it had to go in for service to fix it, luckily it's still under warranty. I don't expect in to last very long after the warranty is up, each time it's taken about a month to get it fixed. I won't be buying a Panasonic again.

Well thank you so much, I purchased this rascal about 6/6/09 as a backup when I had to send my PS3 back to factory. I did not use more than 4 weeks cause I re-connected PS3 when it was fixed.

Next question, Since I do like Panasonic players because of the ram reading which I know is slowly getting to be history. What new Panny would you consider to be an upgrade from the BD60. Just curious as this stuff is a hobby.

The only upgrade in the new BD65 is the addition of Netflix streaming. However, the new BD85 and the new 3D players BDT300 and BDT100 are supposed to have the newer chips for better DVD playback and color reproduction so they would be the better Panny's.
That BD85 sounds like a nice upgrade if needed.
I would probably upgrade, but we don't subscribe to Netflix. We use the Blockbuster until the store close to us goes belly up.
the other "upgrades" i've noticed in the recent models relates to the ability to use SDXC memory cards.

up until recently the panny units would only recognize SDHC...i have discovered this the hard way by bucking up for a pricey 64GB SDXC card for a recent camcorder purchase, only to discover that none of my panny's (BD30, BD55 and BD80; or even my launch PS3 w/built-in memory card slots) recognizes SDXC

My only option is to use two SDHC cards of 32GB each or upgrade my panny (e.g., to the BD85).

Is the BD65 alot faster then the BD60 in loading blurays?

Sounds like it's a little, not a lot, faster. Winston gave the 60 and 80 a 7.5 and the BD65 a 9.0 on load speed. And that may have been before firmware 2.0 on the 60/80's sped up the load time.

My current main receiver has analog inputs that I have my BD80 connected to. My secondary receiver is going out and the main receiver will take its place. I am in the market for a new receiver to replace the main receiver. The new ones have HDMI inputs (where my old main receiver did not), but they do not have analog inputs.

Will HDMI audio give me the same as the analog audio does?
rgathright - Dangerous question! There are definitely some who feel the analog outputs offer superior quality even to the HD digital formats. I've found the sound quality more than acceptable with my BD60 hooked to my Onkyo TX-NR5007 via the HDMI connection. One nice advantage to the digital connection is that it allows for far easier bass management which can be difficult and require external equipment to do properly with an analog setup. Many new receivers do still offer the analog inputs, although I can see how they may have been eliminated on some budget oriented models. (My 5007 has them but I don't use them.)

Doug G

What surprises me is there are analog inputs on my Onkyo TX-SR703, but they do not have them on the TX-NR708 OR 808 which are just a few steps below your TN-NR5007. I only will need a 7.1 systems so the 9.2 systems would be overkill for my setup.

Of course the single HDMI cable would be a lot easier to work with than having 6 cables to deal with.

I've just found what is the problem with my Gladiator Remastered Blu Ray disc and the Panasonic bdp-80, there seems to be a conflict between the player and the DTS-HD Master audio option of the disc, when I choose the 5.1 dolby digital spanish version an play chapter 14 it plays flawlessly, now I wonder if this is a disc defect or a firmware problem because the DTS version of the Alien DVD also has this kind of problems(freezing), if I choose the dolby digital it plays without a glitch.....

I can't get ANY cd's to play on my BD60. Every time I try it chuggs along for a bit then says incompatible disc. I have tried new and old beat up discs with no luck and same incompatible disc message.

Any thoughts??

It sounds like the laser for the CD is either shot or dirty. I'd try blowing it out and see if that helps.

I just received Mad Men season 2 disk 1 in the mail from netflix and my BD60 won't play it. The disk is perfectly clean. I have updated to the most current firmware and other disks that I have tried work (Star Trek and Casino Royal). A few lines of red text appear in the upper left hand corner when I try to play the disk.

It starts with "Player supports SSL: True" and ends with "creating image region.." After that last line, it goes back to the Blu-ray Disc window. Any ideas?

Try erasing the memory on the SD card.

I had the same problem for the first time last night with my BD80 trying to read "Full House" season 3 my kids got from the library that was in mint shape. It did play season 2. All I got was the Blu-ray screen and a slight flicker on the bottom right of the screen and the display says "NO READ". All firmware updates are in order. BTW, I never put in a SD card but wouldn't think this would have any bearing on the problem. Any fixes for this?

When I purchased my DMP-BD605K (Warehouse club model of the BD60) it was advertised at being able to support 'NETFLIX' with a firmware update.
Now Panasonic is saying that they will not support 'NETFLIX' on this machine!

Also I have had troubles with a number of "BD/LIVE" disc's accessing the "BD/LIVE" info online.

Amazon Video and other "Viera Cast" features do work.

But I now have two recent releases that the "BD/LIVE" does now work:
1: Get Him to the Greek (2010 / Universal Pictures)
2: How to Train Your Dragon (2010 / DreamWorks Animation)
(Really this makes the second DreamWorks Animation disc that the "BD/LIVE" does not work for me the first being "Kung Fu Panda")

Unless somebody here has any tricks to get "BD/LIVE" to work on troublesome titles mybe you could suggest a replacement model?
I tried to clear the SD CARD and have the latest updates.

avid

{PS: I have a 18 month old Best Buy Insignia NS-BDLIVE01 that I paid less than $90.00 which the 'Universal' "BD/LIVE" works just fine on! But it also has troubles with DreamWorks Animation disc's. )

I was messing with my BD80 while my kid was watching a Thomas the Train DVD. I went into the video settings and switched from progressive to 24P just to see what would happen. The screen went black for a few seconds and came back on looking better. I was in doubt so I went into my Picture menu on my Panny Z1 that is capable of 60 or 96 Hz 24P playback and it was not grayed out, telling me it was taking the signal. Can this be happening?
