Sony Charging developers for PSN space now - Page 2

did anybody forget that microsoft charges companies for their games? they may not tax the downloads , but they do tax the people that create their games on live.

now the questions is. who charges more in total ? sony or microsoft?

because i dont see that anywhere in this piece of news at all.

or did i just became smarter then the rest?

in the end who cares. as long as the price stays the same on psn store as it is for xbox live i dont care.

I wonder if this is why the CoD: WaW demo wasn't released on PSN. That would have cost a pretty penny.

MS and Sony both take their cut of the profits. But MS doesn't charge publishers for download bandwidth. And you don't get direct profit from releasing a demo.

The difference here is that developers releasing demos on PSN now need to budget for an unknown. They can't tell how many people are going to download their demo up front. Now they have to weigh whether or not they think a demo will cause more people to buy their game or not.

Chances are that bad games just simply won't get demos on PSN. And even good, niche games may not get free demos because the developer is afraid of the distribution charges eating into their slim profits.

This doesn't seem good for developers or users of the system.

MS, Sony, and Nintendo charge to make a game on thier platform. MS also changes companies for the use of Live servers for multiplayer (this is what the EA/MS tiff was about when Live first started). You don't get direct profit from people playing your game online either.
