Am I the only person to find the Radiance a bag of hammers? - Page 2

just to chime in, I have also had sporadic audio sync issues with DirecTV and some video issues with an S-Video source I have.

In those rare instances, the AC Adapter could be pulled. A Menu Reboot/Restart just like the Factory Default Reset (or the Reset Receiver that Directv has in their firmware) would do the job 99% of the time and could be put into the firmware for all Radiance units fairly quickly.

The AC adapter or plug couldn't be pulled if it is in a rack with difficult back access.
I'd agree with an on/off/reboot switch.

If you have an HDMI issue in your system you should update the firmware on your receiver and all your video sources. This can make a big difference. You should also see if there is a way to update the firmware on your display.

HDMI issues, on your system, can require some time and effort to troubleshoot.

In the UK there are RF remote controlled mains plug/sockets (that you plug in and then the equipment piggybacks onto it). I bought mine from the UK equivalent of your Home Depot, very cheaply. I don't used them to turn on my HDQ, but they would work this way if it helps (I actually use them to turn off the lights once I'm sat ready to watch a film ). Being RF you don't need line of sight to activate them.... I thought maybe it would help those with inaccesable rack mounted VPs.

In Rack Mounting of Professional Equipment, a Power Switch on the front is considered a big negative as there is too great of a potential for the unit to be accidentially switched off by mistake (even by walking by carrying something) so most devices do not have it.

Hmm.

All of my other Middle Atlantic rack mounted equipment have front power switches.

Middle Atlantic is consumer gear, not used in studios/professional installations, which just about sums it up.

The talk was adding the power switch on the Professional model.

Curious and OT, if MA is not considered professional, can you please give me a couple of rack brands that are? I'd like to see the difference for AV. I have an MA rack and it's built a lot better than most I have worked with in data centres before.

Cheers,

Chris

I don't get this either. MA is certainly a professional products manufacture. Their racks and accessories are used extensivily in the recording, broadcast, and IT industries, probably a few other places as well.

If you want other brands try ElectroRcak and APW. But having used those products too I still find MA to have the most innovative solutions in the market. They have options such as raised floor bases which neither APW or ElectroRack make. Are computer floors a consumer item too?

Stantron and Emcor is what we have used in every installation.

I will admit i have not looked at the MA line in a number of years and downloaded the online catalog after your post. They have done a nice job of expanding and the numbers on the screw holes is well overdue.
