Ok, so I tried:
1. changing my vga-vga cable and connecting to PC -> banding (1920p this time, tho),
2. connecting a Xbox360 through hdmi -> banding (game: Lost planet, apparent in the menu, too)
3. connecting PC through the xbox360's hdmi cable (just tot try another hdmi cable) -> banding

Tomorrow I hope to get my hands on an ATI board with dedicated hdmi output. If it's the same, I'll contact LG.

Today I talked with a work colleague who knew about banding and told me that even though the panel is 10bit I would still get banding because the vga's output is actually 8 bit max even with xvYCC. It messed with my head a bit.

I mean, ok, I can deal with a bit of banding if it's only apparent when you look for it with a magnifying glass. But when it's obvious from 2 meters away I find it unacceptable.

Oh yeah, xvYCC in Picture Expert Control Settings is on "AUTO". Is there any way to switch it "ON" by force? And would it make any difference?
At least you got most of the process of elimination out of the way today. Hopefully someone on here knows the answer to your xvYCC issue, I'm still a rook myself so I'm of no help

Hi Danman,

Real Cinema is never turned on for me since I use it as a display at 60hz. I think that option will only be available if you have a 24hz feed from an actual DVD player. Otherwise it's always greyed out.

Also as far as the text, I think at 50 it's very clear compared to other monitors I've had. But anything beyond 50 and sharpness related artifacting becomes evident. You set it too less like 20-40 but I happen to like as much sharpness I can get away with. It's personal preference really - some ppl hate sharpness.

Superastic,

I can't remember if I've asked you or not but are you doing everything through a VGA cable? Have you already tried a DVI to HDMI cable? I wouldn't trust a VGA connection to not have some sort of signal loss. It's been evident in every LCD i've hooked since I started shopping around. Every time I used a VGA cable, I notice a distinct loss of image quality, especially in windows text clarity.

Btw, I've checked thoroughly for banding and I can't find any banding like those sky pictures you linked in Crysis or Oblivion or movies. I'm using Nvidia too, geforce 260 sli. I can't help but continue to suspect there might be hardware differences between the US and Euro versions of this panel.

Superastic,

I thought I'd chime in and try to help. I just got a 32LH30 yesterday and so far have it hooked up to my PC and Xbox 360 and I don't see the banding you see. I played Fallout 3 on it for awhile and tried to find banding while walking around looking up at the night sky. I could only see very subtle banding in one part of the horizon and I bet that is just the game's graphics.

My TV was purchased from Newegg and was built in May 2009. I see no problems with it so far, it looks great. I don't have any dead pixels and the backlight seems pretty uniform. It has great viewing angles. It has much of the same good characteristics of my main computer monitor, an NEC 20WMGX2 which has an S-IPS panel.

My PC has a 640MB 8800GTS in it and is hooked up with a DVI-HDMI cable. The Xbox is hooked up with HDMI as well. I'm really impressed with this TV so far. I got it primarily as a gaming TV for the Xbox 360, PS3 and occasional PC game. 32" is a great size as I only sit a few feet from it.
Hi guys!

By default I use a dvi(adapter)-hdmi so it's not a vga cable problem. I only used it to see if there was a difference and there wasn't.

I'm still waiting to try the display out with a ati graphics card with hdmi.

Another thing though: last night I saw 6 panasonic tvs (3 lcd & 3 plasmas, I think or maybe all of them were lcds, I'm not sure) showcased in a local mall. They were showing off their motion smoothing technology I guess.

By coincidence, right when I was checking them out for color banding a guy came by with a movie he encoded to check for banding and it was extremely obvious on all of those 6 tvs as well.

The Panasonic rep who was there was extremely communicative and admitted something like: "well yeah, unfortunately they all have banding..."

I asked him: "wtf, I/people spend a lot of cash on smoothing technology and wide viewing angles and in 2009 on flagship models there is still horrible banding?" He answered: "Unfortunately, yes."

Somehow, after this, I don't think LG will have any solution to this problem (if they acknowledge it at all, that is). I mean , if even high-end models have this problem, there's nothing (better) to replace mine with.

Its situations like that where you wish you didn't have an extremely observant eye

Hi,

I´ve ordered the 37" lh3000 over here in germany, as soon as i have it ( i hope tomorrow ) i will do some pq testing, i want to use this LCD as PC monitor replacement. For Movies and TV only i wouldn´t have bought it, but if you compare to actual 30" monitors and see what you get i think this LCD is a steal.
Hi Castro! When you get it please tell me where it was made (Country) and when (manufacturing date). Oh, and if there is any color banding, of course.
Is anyone else able to verify the input lag on this LCD?

I'm waiting to pull the trigger, I know KVW is extremely knowledgeable on these matters, but I'd love to get one more lag test against a CRT to measure input lag, my Westy is at 16ms, and I can't detect any lag, i'm not sure if 32ms will be noticeable to me. Wish the place by me had a better return policy.

The Tv is here now, i was first a bit disappointed couse the black levels weren´t that good like i´ve expected testing some MKV movies, but with those Cnet settings i´m quite happy, incredible colour accuracy, acceptable blacks, no banding detected yet unless there is a lil bit clouding in the lower left corner but still acceptable. Screen uniformity overall is ok.

Manufacturing date is April, the sticker on the package says assembled in Poland....

The most incredible part is that is reacts like my old Hanns G TFT wich was rated with 5ms, tested with some browser games by now.

I´m sitting 4 feet in front of this monstermonitor ( bigger on my desk then i thought ) writing these lines and i´m absolutely blown away, absolutely sharp and very reconmendable as monitor replacement imo and for 530 € ( around 700$ ) a steal

How can i turn xvyCC Color on ( greyed out ) ? I would like to use 4:4:4 color output in the NV driver but i can´t select it, the TV is connected to my 8800GT by HDMI. The DVI > HDMI cable is connected to the HDMI 1 input of the TV. The reason is my desktop / game blacks look much better than my video blacks, for example the AVS forum black bar looks as black as the bezel. 0 - 255 is turned on in the NV driver so that´s not the cause.

HY !
How ,this LH30 working on cable tv ?
The MPEG-4 AVC(H.264) Decoder worth it ? - do you test it?
I'm interesting to buy this LG for TV programms.
I exchanged my 32LH30 today for another one because the TV was making a weird popping/crackling sound. The noise wasn't constant but was annoying when I heard it. It wasn't coming from the speakers. I think the noise was coming from inside the panel.

The new LH30 appears to be perfect. No dead pixels, no banding, and no weird noises such as pops/crackling.
Right now I am using an ati 4350 and it's the same on hdmi-hdmi. Color banding is still there. It's ugly as hell.

Anyone know anything about EDIDs and how to "fix" it if it's read incorrectly?

This would be my last resort before I contact LG.
is banding noticeable just with the computer or when watching or playing videos games via ps3? tv etc?
I actually got the chance to try Lost Planet on xbox360 (hdmi-hdmi). Didn't try a ps3 yet, or tv.

So, yeah, until now I saw banding on the PC (ati & nvidia) in games and movies (1080p h264, I think) and on the xbox360 in games, both on vga and hdmi.

Just got the LG 32lh30 from BB for a great sale price! Just set it up and calibrated. My sources are Direct tv hd and sony blu-ray. So far its fantastic!!!! I'm used to an hd tube in the living room and I'm hoping this tv can come close. I guess more importantly that my wife likes it the same, since its really her tv...haha.
purchased a 37lh30 last night from nfm for $730 out the door / home and connected dvi to hdmi

initial windows desktop was rather blah but i fiddled with a few settings and its acceptable but certainly not as clear as the op made it out to be - it wasnt 'wow'

tried a few games - crysis, cod:wow, bioshock, dead space [yes i like fps] - all were amazing at 1920x1080 / they definitely had the 'wow' factor

hd movie rips / ps3 game and bluray playback / 360 games / all were delicious

i tried the calibrated cnet settings - way too dark for my tastes - and it didnt improve the gui of windows any

so to the op, can you post some of your detailed settings / my only only complaint with this display is how the windows desktop looks

other than that this is quite the little tv for the $$$

as far as details its a quad core 2 duo / gts 8800 640 / running beta 7 - im sure my forceware drivers are a few months old

Hey Jamhamm!

Can you please post some screenshots from Dead Space? I'm really interested in how the (ceiling) lights in dark corridors look. Or even the profile of Isaac's helmet on a dark background (wall, etc). Post as many as you can please!

This is really important for me to see if I notice any banding from your source to my display.
Thx!

I also just brought home the 37LH30 from BB (they price matched $200 off from another store in town : ). This is my first experience with my (2009) Mac Mini hooked up to an HDTV. It works great, but any advice on whether the text and detail would be sharper on the 32LH30 (it's the same resolution 1920x1080 in a smaller space)?

We'll be using this 80% as a full time computer monitor and 20% for watching movies from the bed. Thanks for any thoughts and experiences.

P.S. One dead pixel right in the center! I may need to exchange it if it keeps bugging me

I picked a 37LH30 up from BB a couple days ago for $700. I'm running it off of a 8800 GTS 512MB with a HDMI

Red text is kinda fuzzy/artifacted, even in PC mode. I think I'll be able to get used to it, though...

I have a question- when the monitor goes to sleep (after I don't use the computer for a while), it seems to turn off instead of going to sleep. I have to actually turn it back on. Any ideas if there's any way around this while still letting it go to sleep?
I just bought a new 55LH40 and I like it so far. the only problem I have is lip-syncing lag with the following config':

BD390 blu-ray player, through a rockfish 8' HDMI cable into the TV, then Optic audio out of the TV into my Fairly new Yamaha receiver. Noticable lip-sycing lag! I pull the Optical out of the TV and went from the blu-ray straight to the receiver. Problem solved.

Not a deal breaker, but it'd be nice to only have one fiber cable instead of 2 fibers and one copper (RCA).

Is this thread for me? there's a L30 and an L90, but no L40 that I can find.
Has anyone else found the same problem BB_Mike has had? I was planning on running all my audio through the TV and then out to the receiver, but if there is a delay in the audio, kinda kills the whole thing.

Edit: BB_Mike, what kinda signal were you passing through the TV? A Dolby Digital 5.1 or a DTS mix? I've noticed audio lag between devices with DTS that wasn't there when I used DD 5.1.
I have noticeable audio lag with my 47" thru HDMI(input 1) on my Pace HD cable box. Switched to Component and it was fixed. Xbox 360 is also connected thru HDMI(input 2) and I notice NO lag whatsoever ,games or movies. Any ideas?
I've switched HDMI cables and even hooked the Pace box to another LCD (32" LG) and it had no noticeable lag at all. Confusing..
My audio lag was while playing the Transformers BR disc. I'm unsure of what the audio type was. When it synced up after the cable swap, I was glued to watching the movie on my new set! I only have 5.1 support, speaker wise, so I didn't concern my self with that part of it all.

My cable DVR box only has DVI out, however my Sony 400 disc DVD player has HMDI. I will try using that this evening and see if it has a delay with a "more simple" 5.1 audio mix.

Well, I've been using the 32LH30 for a few days now since I returned the 37" and it's incredible as both a full time computer monitor and a bedroom TV (it's the perfect size at a desk and no pixel issues; it looks perfect)! Also, I've been using Air Mouse on my iPhone to control my entire 2009 Mac Mini from the bed; it acts as a mouse, keyboard and remote - it's amazing!

I truly believe this LH30 currently offers the best performance and value on the market!
