I just picked up a 40" LN52B530 today. It replaced my Loewe 38" 16:9 Aconda that started smoking yesterday.

I have yet to have time to play around and adjust the set. The pic looks pretty good, but the Aconda would eat it alive when it comes to all out picture qualtiy.

Do you notice the bad blurry movement in dark scenes?
Opps, wrong model number. It's a Sammy LN40B530P7F. I just tried normal DVD with my HD- DVD player and pic is really good, then tried a HD disc and the pic really pops.

Cable is kinda ok, but so far i love the pic with DVD and HD- DVD.

The 40B530 just arrived today. Small first impression:

What I realllyyy like:
With out of box setting, the first thing I notice is how superb its contrast level. Watching Wall-e 1080P BluRay and 1080P FFVII Advent Children Complete really show off the contrast level, every details was revealed on the screen. The color accuracy is also superb, red is red, black is black.

What I like:
- PIP.
- Quite customizable image settings.
- Decent amount of inputs.

What I don't quite like:
- Input lag: I measured it's ~16ms slower than Samsung 226BW, and 226BW is ~16ms slower than CRT. So ... the LCD is ~32ms slower than CRT. I can clearly see its effect while watching panning scene, the image is a bit sluggish and not silky smooth. However, when I tried PS3 on it (Dynasty Warriors 6 and Ninja Gaiden Zigma), I didn't find any negative thing because of its input lag.
- Slow remote response.

What I don't like:
- Sissy built-in audio: The built-in speaker sounded harsh and there was no bass at all. Tweaking the equalizer helped a bit, but not really happy with it. Thank God I don't have to use its built-in speaker for anything else except free-to-air TV channels.

Conclusion:
Given its amazing contrast and PQ, I guess I can live with it even with its weaknesses. Well, at least for now.

Oh yes, the version is AA01. And there's no dead pixel, flashlight, nor color banding.

I agree the audio is wimpy sounding. I had some time to play with some of the settings and really like this set. I was always a CRT and DLP fan, but this Sammy really rocks with bright colors and pretty darn dark blacks with OTA- HD, DVD & HD-DVD.

If my Mits 52628 DLP ever bites the bullet i am going with a top of the line 55" LCD for my bedroom.

Really? You must have been blessed with a lucky set, because I have pointed out this problem to others and they seem to have it too. I don't understand how a '09 model has this, but the '08 A550 models do not.

I can't return this tv or exchange it either, because I exchanged my orginal 37A550 for this on the 29th day of my 30 day return policy. Since everyone on here made it seem so great, I thought they might have been right.

Mine is LA40B530 .... perhaps there's different between LN40B530 and LA40B530?
Oh yeah, that must be why. You didn't mention it was a LA40B530 in your review. I looked it up and they look exactly alike, what are the specs for your set? I wish mine had PIP.
Yeah, my bad.

You can look the feature here: http://www.samsung.com/id/consumer/d...XXD&fullspec=F

But it doesn't list the complete feature. The response time and power consumption are the obvious missing one.
Hi there,

Just purchased a new LN46B530 and set up over the the last day or two. My last TV WAS A 21" CRT. So, I was obviously amazed by the difference in PQ. However, I have noted the following:

1. SD cable looks decent, HD cable looks superb.

2. Watched the Pirates 3 Blu-ray yesterday and noticed the blurring/lagging/ghosting during dark scenes that has been mentioned above. PQ is excellent during bright scenes though. Also, I havent noticed the blurring/lagging/ghosting during dark scenes in TV shows (strange??)

3. I also noticed during the FBI anti-piracy warning before the start of the movie that the four corners of the screen were darker than the rest of the screen. Havent noticed this at any other time.

#3 doesnt really make a difference to me since I dont notice it anywhere except for 3 seconds on those anti-piracy screens. #2 is a concern though.

Is this something that can be sorted out by playing with the settings? What course of action should I take? Also, where can I find the panel/version number of the TV I own? Should I be looking for a certain panel/version number? Are certain ones better than others?

Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks in advance!!

So you noticed the problem too?

Well, I tried to mess with the settings to see if it would help, but it didn't. The version number should be on the right of the tv. Mine is CN01.

Do you have a return policy? If so then I suggest you return it. I can't get my money back or exchange it now, but If I had a new 30 day return policy, then I would have definitely returned/exchanged it. I just can't stand the blurry/lag in dark scenes. I would much rather have an A550 model, but that's just me.

Overall, it's a good tv, but again, I can't deal with the lag/blur, so if it were me, I would return it. Nonetheless, I still have mine, but only because I can't get nothing in return for it. So it really all depends on if you can deal with that problem. If you can, keep it. If not, then return it now before you regret it.

Why don't you call Samsung and see if they would come over and fix it for you? I mean... i doubt it can be fixed but it wouldn't hurt to try. If not you can always sell it to someone.

I'm in your same situation and i haven't decided on what to do yet. The blurring/smearing is REALLY annoying during dark scenes.

I dont notice any blurring or smearing with my LN40B530P7F. Never checked to see if it has PIP since i never use it anyway.
Same, I'm pretty sure the LN doesn't but I guess the LA does have PIP
post #139 of 337
I havent decided what to do yet.

I have now watched all forms of visuals on the TV (SD,HD cable, PS3 games, Blu-ray movies). Dont think DVD would be any different in terms of the blurring.

In the games, I was in relatively dark scenes but didnt notice anything. It only seems to happen in dark scenes in BD movies. I read another thread here about panel/version numbers and there are people who have had good/bad experiences with all different panel/version numbers. So, Im not going to lose much sleep over what I have.

I will watch a few more movies with dark scenes in them (the dark knight) and if i find it unwatchable then ill get fs to come and fix it or ill have to return it if its unfixable.

Its just that its soooooo good at everything else it does, Im not sure if I want to go through the trouble of returning it, especially when theres no guarantee that the next one i get will be better. It might even be worse.

And my gf doesnt even notice the blurring. POTC 3 has quite a few dark scenes and she never once said anything about the blurring. Dont know if her eyesight is just not that good or if Im a videophile(dont think I am!!)

I think I will try to contact Samsung, hopefully this issue can be resolved, because yes, it is very annoying. Just about everything else about the tv is great, it's just this one problem that I can't deal with.

I actually watched TDK on my set, and surprisingly, I didn't notice it really. But If you have a chance, try to watch "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and on the scene where they get back from dinner, you'll really notice it. Or, since you have a ps3, and if available, download the "Heavy Rain" E3 trailer from the ps store. There are some scenes where you can notice it as well.
I can definitely do the Heavy Rain test and report back tonight.

I notice it most in dark scenes but i can sometimes notice it during any scene. Like in Prince of Persa you can see the walls blur slightly. I notice it in about anything that i watch.

I rarely notice it in any other scenes, sometimes I do though. Gritty/grainy dark scenes are where it's most noticeable.

scudht, how'd that test go?
Surprisingly, I didnt notice it that much in the Heavy Rain trailer. I really had to look for it. I watched Pan's Labyrinth and Apocalypto, which also had a few dark scenes and Apocalypto has a lot of fast moving scenes in the jungle and I couldnt notice anything there. For some reason, it has just been Pirates 3 so far.

The more I think about it....I feel like Im going to keep the TV. Ive had it for a week now and watched what I normally watch in terms of movies, gaming and TV. And, if Ive only noticed it once then thats fine. Im not going to try and find movies that will look bad on the TV. That would be me trying to find an excuse to return the TV.

After all that Ive read on here, I feel that everything audio/video is extremely subjective. What I think is a good setup might a completely horrible for you and vice versa. Im happy with the TV so far but you might walk in to my place, take one look at the picture and wonder how on earth am I satisfied with the PQ.
Well I'm happy you are satisfied with your set, and wish you the best with it. Maybe I was just unlucky and ended up with a bad set. I still don't know what to do. I don't know whether to try to get a replacement of the same model, or just get a completely new and different model. This set is so nice except for the blur and if I end up getting another, I may end up with more severe problems, Flashlighting, Banding etc.

I thought of getting a Sony, as it's in my price range and identical to the cost of the B530. Anyone think the Sony KDL-40V4100 is a good set? I hate to bring up another tv on this thread but I couldn't find any threads on it on here.

Btw, iVersatile did you decide on what to do?

I am in the process of trying to get a refund from Samsung. If i do get a refund i will probably end up buying a Panasonic G10 Plasma. I know Plasma's have problems of their own but right now i would take that chance.

So you finally had enough with the blur/smearing huh? Yeah, I'm still kinda on the fence. I can't find any other 40" Sammys that are in my price range, so I don't know. They can give you a refund? Did you call and ask about the problem?

Well... originally i had a different set, so they sent me the B530 as a replacement because of severe flashlighting i had in all four corners. Now this TV also has flashlighting, but ontop of that it has this blur/smearing issue my other tv didn't have so i let them know that and they told me they would get back to me on my request for a refund. It's been a few days and i haven't heard back so i think they're just blowing me off.

They told me that motion blur is normal with a 60hz panel but i think it's a bunch of bs because my other tv didn't have that problem.
