HDMI & DD - Do I still need hack with this cable?

I was thinking about purchasing a new Arcade so I can take advantage of the HDMI output. However, then I started reading about the need for a $50 adaptor if you want HDMI to the TV and Optical audio to the reciever. Then I read this and found out that all you have to do is crack open the plastic case that connects the power and audio to the back of the Xbox so you can still connect the HDMI cable.

My question is if anyone has tried this cable from monoprice and, since it's flat to begin with, if it will work without having to hack the cable. Thoughts?

Thanks!

No but I found the audio adapter from this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1185267959809

I was in game stop and just happened to look at their used cables and found it for 5 bucks.
I tried the hack but it looks pretty crappy if your box is in sight

I've seen the MS audio dongle on ebay for $10, thats gonna be your best IMO.

Just open the plastic case. It doesn't show if your xbox is in an AV rack and works like a charm

It's not the HDMI cable that's the problem its the AV cable.
As for what to do you can get them cheap or you can hack yours.

I might end up hacking mine then, but I like the method I posted earlier, as opposed to this one:

I think I'll probably go ahead and order the flat monoprice cable anyway, just to be sure it will fit. The other monoprice HDMI cables I have now are very thick and look thicker than some of the ones I have seen people use with the hack.

Thanks!

Or for an even better look you could use the buyanotherrecieverwithHDMIpassthrough hack.
