outlander on bluray french import.

Thread Starter
it will be released next week in france on bluray.

does anybody know the french specifications for it?

i read upon the story and it sounds all ridiculous. but people who watched it said it is one of the best sci-fi monster movies since a very long time.

and since it has john hurt and james caviezel in it, could it actually be good ?

so anyway i am hyped for this movie. just hoping it has english subs

thanks

Not until a review for two reasons:
1. Unlikely to have English subs for the alien dialogue at the start.
2. Certain French labels are forcing French subs on English audio.

Its not a bad flick. I mean its no Alien but its a decent flick thats enjoyable. It lacks a bit in certain areas but I think most ppl would enjoy it.

Come on, it's got Ron Perlman and Jesus (James Caviezel) in it! How can you resist their combined awesomness?

Pretty much sums up the terrible release state of French BDs.

One of the most entertaining movies I´ve seen in a long time.
Reminded me a little bit about the "13th Warrior" with a hint of "Alien" in a few scenes.
Plus the movie definitely got the tongue placed firmly in the cheeks
Good old fashioned fantasy action adventure!

it says region B on it ... but much to my surprise it played just fine on my region 1 panasonic DMP BD55 .... great picture .. pretty good movie over-all .... i took a chance that it would be multi-regional

Enforced French subtitles or not?
I watched it in english ... The subtitles remained at the bottom .... But i really didn't notice them that much and i didn't try to see if they could be hidden ................ I'll check it out later

I can now confirm that the french edition of Outlander is region free. However the english track has forced french subs.

forced french subt
image quality varies: sharpness varies (source or encoding?) some inky blacks and some not
lots of blue screens greens screens (cuts the realism there LORD OF THE RINGS IS the absolute reference in the genre) but also some very nice scenes( beast on the bridge)
the monster is quite well done
sound is quite good(blades sound, explosions, beast "bass")
sometimes cgi (sci fi part) reminds the budget limitation

humour: well i guess vikings had sometimes some fun( cf VIKINGS the movie )

some action scenes typical "what's going on??" reflex unfortunately.

it's a B serie

there's been lots worse "similar" movies.
7/10 , rent and own for hard core genre fans.

it's an honnest attempt at trying to do something of a mix of sci fi, gore (there is !), heroic fantasy and period (here viking period)
it tries not to look like Xenia crap.

note: i said LOTR absolute reference in the genre, i wrote too fast.
Heroic fantasy belongs to CONAN THE BARBARIAN. no CGI of course.
feels "natural"..........
LOTR has great scenes especially when no or few CGI involved (Liv Tyler escape on the white horse for instance).
the point is the less CGI the best imho. and if there is some it better integrate as best possible. in that sense the monster here in OUTLANDER is quite well done. imho.

THE 13TH WARRIOR (even though not McTiernan's personal cut but still feels very period and atmospheric and authentic) also feels very natural (excellent language transition also, something they tried here too in the begining).
