How do I know what goes inside the sub box (bracing etc.)

Sorry for the noob question, but I am looking to try building a sub soon and I am not sure about the bracing and stuff that people put on the inside of the box. I see pieces of wood with lots of holes cut into them in other boxes. What are these for? Is there some method to what kind of bracing is supposed to be used?

Thanks

Most are attempting to keep the outside walls of the enclosure broken into 12" x 12" spans to keep the box inert. Some more, some less.

The reason you see the bracing cut with holes in it is so that it occupies less volume and the inside of the box is still one continuous air space.
