The Hobbit - Page 7

I'm scheduled to be in SE Asia when this is released. Sh**. I will have to somehow schedule a trip back to the states when it is released otherwise I won't be able to see it.

It is distressing that this will be 3D. That is just a distraction. But 48fps, if that is possible, is a plus.

In the hands of respectable talent, 3D has proven to be an enhancement, not a distraction. Imo.

Not when most theaters have single projection 3D that is so dark you can't see anything. A film like THE HOBBIT will be dark. Good luck with that. Better see it in IMAX.

Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur have some of the best theaters I've seen. And in English of course

Really, Okay, I am officially looking into that. Thanks for the tip. Any excuse to hit Thailand is a good excuse.

Oh, it's worse than that... see Boston Globe article below:

Many theaters misuse 3-D lenses to show 2-D films, squandering brightness, color.

My God. That is terrible. AMC is all over the place here in NYC and I go to them all the time because they have actual matinee prices before noon. But I have not sen this yet, personally.

This would explain why 2D previews before a 3D picture look so so horribly dark at the Ziegfeld Theater.

sdurani,

Thanks for the link to that article. That really blows if more of the theaters are doing that. I'll be sure to look next time I am at a movie, and if they are using the 3D lense if front of a 2D film, I will be getting my money back and tell them why.

The Ziegfeld Theater doesn't use a Sony 3D projector. They use a single lens NEC:

PJ has made it clear that bD looks the way he wants. And it does look great. The ruckus is nonsense.

I own the ed trilogy bluray set. I have watched FOTR and the picture is stunning only overshadowed by a tremendous audio track.

I haven't seen any info in the main thread where PJ has responded directly to the issues seen by many. Anyway to each his own regarding what one sees.

Its pretty cool that PJ is doing the video blogs, and he mentioned we might see another during the "break" this month.

Well, at least it isn't too reminiscent of Terry Gilliam.

No he hasn't. No it doesn't. No it's not.

I'm hoping that at the very least, once he's done with the Hobbit, there will be another releast that corrects the green tint and darkness of FOTR EE on blu.

However, even if it never happens, I'll be happy to watch the Blu Ray simply for te greatness of the movie. I can only imagine that The Hobbit will be as good, of not better than The Trilogy as far as moviemaking goes.

I am still holding out for an exchange program....
It's the least WB and PJ can do.
