'Deadliest Catch' On Discovery HD - Page 4

This is sad news, but we all knew he was marked for this since a season ago. He's the one with the blood clot that nearly lodged in his lung (which would have killed him right then), right? The last place this guy should have been is exerting himself on any boat (or even loading a boat). I hope he gets better.

THis was almost certainly captured by teh camera crew like last time. I wonde how they will show it.

I hope he makes a recovery and finally decides to retire or at least quit smoking.

I was wondering myself if they will show this or not.

That is great news and hope he has a full recovery. I somehow think his fishing days are probably over with at this point.

I think they almost certainly will show it. It would be the most compelling part of the season.

I guess I was thinking more about the privacy issue than anything else.

"UPDATE: February 9, 2010: It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad - Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that strength. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. - Jake and Josh Harris"

"Statement from Discovery - Discovery mourns the loss of dear friend and colleague Captain Phil Harris. He was more than someone on our television screen. Phil was a devoted father and loyal friend to all who knew him. We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart. We share our tremendous sadness over this loss with the millions of viewers who followed Phil's every move. We send our thoughts and prayers to Phil's sons Josh and Jake and the Cornelia Marie crew."

SAD DAY..going to hate telling my wife this when she wakes up. I HOPE they do not show this even, I was pretty hacked that they showed the NW kid bawling over his late sister last season!
Sad news indeed, he was one of the highlights of a TV show and someone who went beyond that and into the hearts of the fans and crew on the show.

I am with the opinion that they should simply dedicate this show to him and his family and let them be in peace.

He will be missed.

yeah right
this is television gold
discovery will milk this tragedy
I think they could cover what happens to his boat now. Do the sons take it out etc
post #104 of 157
If they drop the Cornelia Marie from the show in future seasons, Discovery would get vilified. If they keep them on the show, they have no choice but to cover the aftermath of this tragedy.

RIP, Phil. He was a cool guy to watch.

Since they were offloading during the middle of Opie season, I would say they almost certainly have footage of his initial issue. Not sure if they will run it though since his death. They did show his last problems when they happened, but of course, he made it out OK.

They are in a difficult spot. On one hand, the whole point of the show is it is a dangerous job and they risk their lives. They have shown us other people who almost died or were dead (though they of course blurred the bodies). They have shown the captains worrying about others who might be lost while listening to radio calls. They showed the poignant tapes of the crew that died after filming them. Of course, none of those were main characters.

On the other hand, in future seasons, how the Harris Brothers and the rest of the crew responds could be very interesting and instructive for those who have followed this show since the beginning. Hopefully they all make it through OK as dozens of people depend on that boat for a living.

RIP Cap'n Phil.

Phil (and Sig) smoked WAY too much. Not healthy at all. A very sad situation. I'm fine with whatever way they deal with his death on the show as long as they follow the wishes of Phil's family.

RIP Phil.

RIP Phil.

I agree but also as a former smoker I know how hard it is to quit I am now on my 7th time quitting and think I finally have it licked but like an alcholic one never knows. It is a disgusting habit and them doing what they do for a living I totally understand why they smoke so much.

Discovery has short spots in between commercial breaks showing footage from the show wishing Capt Phil save passage.

All I can say is that it's one thing to show the dealy side of the show but showing it young man bawling and snotthing up his face for half an hour is way to invasive....I'm sure they will show his son's doing the same thing but it is something I will probably FF over. I personally don't agree with those moments being shown @ length!

Speaking of Jake, I saw a blurb on Yahoo News that his father has been "missing" in Washington State for the better part of a month.

His abandoned pickup truck was found in a remote wooded part of the state a few weeks ago. The authorities ended the search after they found his vehicle and don't think foul play is the reason for his disappearance. Sad.

Don't know why I continue watching this show... I suppose it's good. Can I just say... Christ, Elliot Neese you are such a giant douche. LOL...

But he is so romantic LOL.

I loved it when he found out the girl "he's not dating" is cheating on him. The solution, marry her. Yea Elliot that will work.
I quit watching after Phil passed on and it doesn't sound like I've missed a thing same-o-same-o just a different day/year.
^Yeah, Stopped watching it before he started his rapid health decline. I got back into it when I heard he passed. I'm surprised more of those wheel house captains don't have the same health issues with how hard they are on their bodies. I'll probably stop watching when I get more of a backlog going I suppose.

So.....who else thinks Capt Keith and the rest of the Wizard crew (especially Freddie) behaved like giant a$$holes in driving the new greenhorn off the boat? I've lost what little respect I had left for Keith and would love it if Discovery would remove his boat from any future seasons based on his failure to act as a true captain and "leader".

I just loved how the latest issue between Lenny and Monte was automatically greenhorn Dane's fault because of earlier. rolleyes.gif

I don't think Lenny got a haircut, so much for the whole good luck thing. They need to grow up, the GH did his work, just because he wouldn't cut his hair is complete BS.

The GH could have let them cut his hair. It would have been NBD. Having said that, I don't think he got a fair shake. Keith seems to relish in firing GHs instead of working with them. It's a tough job, but the GH didn't seem to be lacking in stamina. He just didn't bond and it seems that no GH could bond with the Wizard crew.
