After watching The Graduate on HD DVD, I would dare to say the master isnt in the best of shapes. The movie would really need a restoration.

Im looking forward for Navy Seals.

Wonder if To Live and Die in L.A. will be ruined ala The French Connection.

All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it's absolutely necessary. And three, be nice.

ROAD HOUSE is a definite buy for me...

Friedkin recently said that his work on To Live and Die in L.A. has been held off, so I doubt there is enough of a time window for his work to be done. If it actually gets released in June, then I have a feeling that it will be the same bare-bones treatment that is offered overseas. It at least beats paying $50 for the Japanese release.

get ready for more mpeg 2 goodness from MGM.
I think everyone knows "The Graduate" was planned for 2 years ago.
I hope I'm wrong, but I think we have to be realistic.
Can anyone say "Silence of the lambs"?

Ah... THE GRADUATE. A perfect movie. (I did not say "THE" perfect movie, or "the very best movie ever made"... but it is A perfect movie.)

I can scratch off another flick from my personal "top ten of all time".

As an aside: these are exciting times to be a collector of catalog titles, as corny as it sounds... I love the anticipation of watching the online sites daily for announcements just like this one. There will come a time, like DVD and laserdisc before, when I'll have pretty much all the movies on Blu-ray that I plan to purchase. I buy maybe two "new" titles each year; other than that, I'm all about flicks like "The Graduate" and "The Third Man" and "The 400 Blows". Good times; I love the hunt!

There's just one thing to remember when considering THE GRADUATE on Blu-ray; just one piece of advice I want to give to everyone who's going to run out and buy it or rent it... are you ready?... "Plastics".

Yeah, it's pretty bad.

I love this movie. I would far rather have a stripped down version that hasn't been molested than lots of extras and Friedkin's brain tumour at work.

I didn't know Friedkin had a brain tumor. A tumor is no laughing matter, so my best goes out to him.

Hopefully Road House has the Smith/Mosier commentary.

Was this a non-US release?

That sucks, but is not unexpected. I was pretty shocked when I read the news that this was coming to BD because every time I've ever seen the movie it's been a non-anamorphic version which looks to be in poor shape. This announcement has me wanting to purchase it on BD sight unseen (the transfer, that is), because it's one of my top 5 or so movies of all time.

Yes it was the Studio Canal release. And yes even if they have done a 1080P scan (couldnt really tell) the colors and contrast looks very bad.

But the good side. Its still a good movie, and I still got entertained by it. Somehow it didnt feel that important that the movie wasnt in best of shapes.

So if you like this movie, buy it, because I have no idea if any better version will come in the future. But just dont expect so much from the PQ.

These BD releases will apparently include a DVD copy.

Also, High-Def Digest received information that To Live and Die in L.A. will be encoded with AVC and stored on a BD-50. I'm highly skeptical of it not being the same low bit-rate MPEG-2 encode currently offered overseas, but I would love to be proven wrong.

Hell, I'll just be happy to finally see a prime Katharine Ross in something other than a windowbox.

The only time the same encode can be used is if its the same company that released the oversea version as the domestic one. (of course they can buy the encode from another company, but that seem rare)

Obviously, but the Japanese and French BDs are also released by MGM/Fox.

Got my copy of "Road House" tonight. About to pop it in...

Didn't know it was a 2 disc set with disc 2 being a DVD instead of some lame digital copy thingie. Now I have a copy to give away.
