Can't post URLs unless I write 3 posts firsts. How about CAPTCHA for that?

Hi,

I just joined this forum, delighted to see a huge audience of A/V fans.

I have a problem with oversaturated reds on my HP LP2475w LCD flat panel, but I can't post URLs to the a picture I took because of the forum rules.

Would it be possible to have another system instead of the 3-post rule? CAPTCHA or something else? Some people really are not spammers, but they need to post URLs.

Hi! And welcome!

The 3 post rule may seem weird or restrictive but having seen more than a few spam floods I'm really glad it's here (and captcha's are kind of broken easily when it comes to pro spammers, boiler room type setups).

But you should be able to post your image link now (at 4 posts).

Not only do I like the no links/images until 3 posts rule, but I wouldn't mind seeing it expanded to 10 posts.

I also don't think new members should be allowed to start new threads until they've been here a month, as most of the questions asked by new members in new threads have already been covered extensively somewhere else.

New members (heck, all members) should spend 99% of their time reading and 1% posting.

I agree. It takes 30 seconds in advance search using title search only as the filter to find one's answer (most of the time) or at least a thread covering the topic that could be bumped requesting additional info.

But, I also understand the balance of needing to make the forum inviting for the new members too. It's a tough balancing act.
