How do I rip TV shows from a DVD?

I am using XMBC as my media center.
I don't think I can just rip the DVD as a TS folder or .iso and have XBMC show it's nice interface and bypass the DVD menu (it will just say Simpsons Disc 1 or something like that), so I need to rip each episode individually.

Also, roughly how big would each episode be?

Side note? Is it actually possible to just rip a .iso or TS folder and have XBMC list all the episode names? Then I click a episode and it just starts playing?

I rip mine to iso's. I also use xbmc, so I have some experience doing what you want.

I recently ripped a season of 24.
On each dvd there were 4 episodes. I use dvd shrink and I save each episode by itself.
(to do this select 'open disc' in dvd shrink. When it is done analyzing the disc it will show each episode on the right side. Drag one episode to the left side and choose 'backup' and save it to whatever location on your hard drive you want. Do this for each episode seperately)

Now, the way I set it up for xbmc is as follows.
I have a folder called TvShows.
Inside that folder I have a folder called 24.
Inside that I have a folder called Season 1.
And another called Season 2.

For season one, I have all the episodes for that season. Named as follows:
24.s01e01
24.s01e02
etc.

That means the show is 24, the season 01, and episode 01, and episode 02.
Season 2 episodes would be 24.s02e01, 24.s02e02, etc.

BTW, I use media companion for my movies and tv shows instead of the scraper in xbmc. You should check it out.

I'm bumping this topic just to see what other methods people are using.

I just started messing around with MakeMKV and I really like it for TV series DVD's. Using all the defaults settings, it is a simple 2 click procedure. Fire up the program, insert DVD, click scan, wait for it to automatically select the episodes from extras(about 2 minutes), click Make MKV's and you are done. It takes about 4 minutes per episode to rip, so most discs are finished in less than 20 minutes. All the new MKVs are placed in a folder named Showname_S#_D# and the episodes are naked Episode1.mkv, Episode2.mkv, etc. It really is a handy little program for doing this specific task. You can read more about it here:

Hello,
I'm new to forums here and consider myself an amateur when it comes to ripping dvds
I have this problem with episode discs (Band of Brothers, Blue Planet). I use avs video converter to rip the video_ts file off dvds into a windows media file. The problem with multi episode discs is that I can only find one episode off each disc. Don't know what my problem is, help would be very much appreciated.

It's very easy with DVDShink. Just load the disk, click on reauthor, drag one title (episode) over, and click Backup!. Do this for each episode.
