Think you guys will appreciate my support experience with AMD.
FIRST CONTACT: I asked why I could not enable automatic dynamic contrast when running Catalyst 9.6 with a Sapphire 4550.
They responded "not all Aero functioinality is supported on all video cards"
SECOND CONTACT: I pointed out that the specficatioins on their Website stated that this function was supported on the 4550.
They responded "contact Sapphire, our site provides generic information regarding our chip sets and vendors may not necessarily enable all functions supported by our chip sets on a given card.
THIRD CONTACT: I advised that I had contacted Sapphire and they had advised me that they had fully implemented all functionality supported by the chip set and that I should contact AMD.
They responded "please download Catalyst from the vendors Website as the problem was that the generic version of the driver I had downloaded from AMD did not contain vendor specific modifications necessary to support my video card.
>>> I did as advised and did a bit level file verification and the driver posted on Sapphires site was identical to the one on AMDs site.
FORTH CONTACT: I advised them that this made no difference.
They responded that I should post the problem via 'Catalyst Crew Feedback' as the problem would appear to be specific to my hardware configuration.
FIFTH CONTACT: I started a new support thread with AMD rephrasing my first question as "I have a 4550 Video Card. The ability to enable Automatic Dynamic Contract Adjustment is greyed out in Catalyst Control Center 9.6. Why?"
They responded "this function is not supported on the 4550 chip set as this is an advanced function and the 4550 is an entry level video card" and provided a link to the product specifications on their Web Site for this card.
Interestingly I had made a copy of the page when I first contacted their support and they have modified the page. The original text is below with the deletions in red:
