I was left with a Definitive 5.0 system when I bought the house. Not sure the model number of any of the speakers right now, but you can see the size of one of the fronts from the above link (see it mounted on the wall between the sconces).
I plan to add a sub, and believe I will go with a SVS-PB-12 Plus for $1139.
I was planning on buying a full 5.0 system for another $1000. Until I found out I have this Definitive system.
Now I plan to upgrade the fronts and the center channel, and just move the 4 Definitive surrounds to a 7.1 configuration. This would allow me to upgrade the sides and rears at a later point in time.
I'd like to get the center and the fronts for under $1000. Considering I had figured out how I could accomplish a full 5.1 system (including that sub) for about $2000, I think my budget of the center and 2 fronts for no more than $1000 is doable.
Since my center channel is going to be below the screen (no, I won't have an AT screen), I was considering getting the fronts as tower speakers to keep them in line with the center. Alternatively, I can wall mount the fronts at a lower height. Either or.
I'm looking for some recommendations. The room will be used primarily for HDTV viewing of sports. Occasional blu-ray and very unlikely for pure music. Most of the time HDTV of sports, and some HDTV of other, and the occasional 1080p movie.
Looking for suggestions and advice. Thanks!
Oh, and the center/fronts I had been contemplating was the SVS SCS-01(M) for $490. Since I have decided to double my budget on these 3 speakers, I want to see my options. Oh, and this is my first HT and my first full surround sound system I am designing. The only one I ever had was a HTIB from Sony for a 5.1 full system for roughly $500. So everything I get will be a huge upgrade over anything I have had before. I just want to make a smart decision and not waste money, considering my experience is very limited.
