Damn these BIC Acoustech PL-200 look amazing and can be found on Ebay. I guess since I am waiting for my Onkyo TX-SR608, I should think about ditching my cheap Sony Sa-w3000 subs for these; yes I had a budget system made up of Sony. I think I remember reading some users paired these subs with some Polk Audio speakers, anyone use anything else?

If I am reading correctly, the consensus is that if you have the cash, then for $70 more the HSU STF2 is a better sub than the PL-200. Is that correct?

Since better is subjective, I don't see how that could be the consensus, nor did I gather that being said from this thread. STF2 is probably better for music though.

This is a great thread. I read most every post and decided to order the PL-200 tonight. Got it for $279 and that seems like an amazing price for what you get. Considered a A2-300 but at over $400 it didn't seem like it was worth the extra cost.

I'll be replacing my 10 year old Cerwin Vega HT-S10 with is a 10" down firing sub with 100W, it has served me well but I upgraded all my other speakers almost 2 years ago and my AV receiver last year.

The PL-200 will be used with my Yamaha RX-V3900 AV Reciever, Energy C-500 front towers, Energy C-C100 center channel, and Energy C-200 bookshelf rears.

I do 90% gaming/movies on this setup and 10% music at most. So this seemed like the best sub for me.

Hopefully I have no issues with it and it does what I'm hoping it'll do. I missed out on a clearance Energy ESW-V10 a few months ago and think this is a great alternative, and it is cheaper too.

So im stuck between the Bic 100 and 200, price being the main factor. The problem with Bic is that I cant find any Canadian Vendors... so the duty/ brokerage kills me! That being said Overtock.com has the Bic acoustech h100 for approx $330cdn all-in (i.e taxes, brokerage, shipping). Sound Distributors has the Bic PL200 for about $460 cdn all-in. The question I have is the 200 worth the extra $130?? First post.... and I can't believe how much I've learned since this morning! WOW! thx.

would this be a good match for Mirage Nanosat speakers? Looking for a sub with good upper end (100-120hz) response, but can still get deep since the nanosats cut out early due to size.

can i ask all owners opinions on maximum size room this unit might work in? i have large room with only room for one sub due to layout. it seems this one would be limited to a room around 2500 cubic feet or so.

What kind of receiver and does it have EQ capabilities for the sub(20hz, 40hz, 60hz, 80hz) ?

The biggest issue with these budget subs is getting a flat response out of them. You will get low end boom without a doubt, which people perceive as a "good" subwoofer but then you get dead spots in certain frequencies.
A good subwoofer is more than shaking the walls with 20hz. It's about proper low end response throughout 80-20hz.
This is where an EQ comes in to play to level out the frequencies so you get good consistant bass and LFE.
Audyssey does a great job EQing if it's built in to your receiver.

Sometimes, an EQ can't fix this either.

I think it would be OK. I have Monitor 60's, and I'm only comfortable running the crossover for them at around 60hz, but really the PL-200 in my situation seems to do really well with really low frequencies, anything below 60 or so, but above 60 it really seems to fall flat. So I am left with the sub doing all of the bass work, and the fronts aren't really going low enough to really fill in that ~60 range, +/- 10hz. It could, and likely is more related to my room though. EQ on my receiver would be a HUGE help, like 42Plasmaman said. To me EQ is almost a requirement. I just pre-ordered an Onkyo 608 and will probably be leaning towards two PL-200 Subs and Polk audio for the rest of the setup. I haven't purchased the subs nor the other speakers yet, still shopping around. My old setup was a Sony receiver with all Sony speakers, so this is a big jump. For the price and sound, Polk Audio is good for me, unless I find something around the same price range. Man didn't think audio stuff can get so expensive when you want a good setup.

How is the LFE channel set up on the receiver? As far as dB +/-? I have mine set to +8dB and anything over about 11:30 on my volume knob scares me. Sounds like it's going to come apart, but maybe it won't and would do fine set that high. I've never had a sub of this scale before, only smaller, cheaper ones.

Also, wouldn't it be less "stressful" to the amp to have the receiver set higher, and the actual volume on the amp/sub turned lower?

Would you say that a pair of Monitor 70's paired with only 1 PL-200 would be better than the Monitor 50's and the 2 PL-200 subs I was first thinking of getting?

That's a tough one. I haven't heard the 70's in person, nor have I heard the difference in 1 PL-200 vs. 2, but I would imagine that they both would be fine. The 70's would probably allow much more full bass, with a little less work for the sub, but at the same time, the little speakers on the 50's and 60's seem to handle some bass fairly well, and 2 PL-200 would probably give a more full sound with a higher SPL overall. Tough decision.

Don't know what to choice either, but maybe I should start thinking of my surroundings. Maybe getting the two Monitor 70's is a better choice and that way I can turn off the sub for normal low volume viewing when I don't want to make the whole room rattle.

Would the Audyssey 2EQ do a good job of eq'ing this sub? I've got an Onkyo tx-sr606 wich only has 2EQ. I looked on the Audyssey web site and it says "it does not apply a filter to the subwoofers". So I guess it just sets a crossover and level???

The LFE level goes from -20 to 0 which is where I have it at.I tried the crossover set at 120hz and it sounds better.Shouldnt it be the other way around?
