You can tell if the subwoofer is blown if most of the sound that comes out of it sounds muffled and make more of a belching sound rather then the tight bass it is supposed to sound like.
You can also inspect the woofer to see if there is any separation on any part of the woofer, especially on the rubber seal. If you can't see anything there, You can remove the woofer and see if the cone itself is damaged.
This sub is designed to get loud, but as you played it at max volume the moment you got it, it is very likely that you could have blown it out. I will say that I have played my H-100 at only 12 o'clock and it got so loud at times that it worried me if the drive could handle it.
I hope for your sake that you got lucky and didn't blow your driver. I honestly would never suggest running any audio equipment at it's absolute maximum at any time.
