BIC Acoustech H200 Subwoofer (AKA PL-200) - Page 3

PLEASE do share. This is one comparison I'm sure everyone has been wanting to see. Always hear the talk about the A2-300 being the better choice, but never anything over specs and speculations to back it up. Especially now that the A2-300 went up in price, I think the PL-200 has picked up an edge in the battle. Especially considering the PL-200 can be had for as little as $270-$280. Even if the A2-300 beats it by 10%, the cost indicates to me that the PL-200 is the better value.

I am really eyeing this sub. For a while I was set on the PA-120 and then I started debating whether it was worth pushing my budget a bit to pick up an eD A2-300, but now that the A2-300 went up to $415 that is no longer an option.

So now I have it narrowed down to the PA-120 and the BIC PL-200. I can get the PA-120 for about $50 cheaper so I am wondering if the BIC is worth the $50. My gut reaction is telling me to go for the BIC given that it is a BASH amp and has design help from Hsu Research, but I just haven't seen a ton of reviews yet.

That is what my gut told me as well, and what I finally decided on. I flip flopped for months between the PA-120, the F12, the PL-200, the A2-300 and a few others in the range. The PA-120 is no doubt a good sub, but like many other low end subs it lacks a lot in the music department. I'm hoping the PL-200 will be a little more decent in that area than some of the others. Even if not, it should be better HT sub than the PA-120 anyway. More power from a better amp, better looking, driver looks to be better, and for some reason having a non removable power cord is something that I didn't like about the PA-120. Something about that made it seem all that much cheaper in build quality and design. Then you factor in better specs across the board, 22hz vs 24, sensitivity I'm not sure, they measure them differently, amp output power 200/650 vs 250/1000, enclosure about the same, PL-200 tiny bit larger in volume, and an 8 year warranty vs only 5 on the PA.

When you made the offer, did you have to wait for an email reply or phone call? If so, how long did you wait?

I also made an offer for the PL-200 and was accepted for $275.00 yesterday on ebay. Should be here this Wednesday. Can't wait!

All of this talk has me excited! Should be making my $280 offer this Tuesday, and probably making the order Wednesday. So maybe I will get it by the following Monday or Tuesday, if all goes to my plans.

My sub shipped yesterday and I should have it around the middle of next week.

I need to break it in a little before LOTR.

So, is it really the much better the the Klipsch w12? I was planning on getting the whole BIC PL-89 5.1 HT system but, I wasn't sure about replacing my Klipsch w-12 sub. Thank for the info Bryan

This might be a stupid question, or more of a concern, but my PL-200 shipped out on Saturday and UPS tracking listed it as 41 lbs. and the spec. sheet shows that the sub weighs 52lbs. Has anybody had this same experience and should I even be concerned?

I wouldn't be concerned, my PL-200 is showing 47lbs. Plus, my previous sub was showing like 10lbs under as well. It's just cheaper shipping from my experience.

Thanks for the tip guys - I was looking for a second sub (I have an Earthquake Supernova MKV12 sub now) for some additional bass. I will let you know how they compare.

One quick question: It appears that the PL-200 has a single sub input as opposed to a left/right configuration. If that is the case, I will just need to add a y connector from the sub out from my Denon receiver and run the sub cables to my Earthquake and PL-200.

Does that sound about right? Any other advice is welcome!

Sounds right to me. Just a simple RCA/Coax splitter from the receiver to both subs.

Just watched Transformers 2. OMG the PL-200 rocks!!!!!!!! I have a very large room.... 18x20 12ft ceiling and is open in rear 10ft across into the kitchen and has three openings leading to hallways and the dining room. Theoretically this one sub shouldnt be enough to do the job, but it does. I cant imagine what one of the high end subs from ED, HSU, SVS, Empire and those guys could do in here, but I am plenty content with the BIC.

That is good for me to hear! Glad you enjoy it. In my 14x14x8 room, it should blow the doors off. Or at least shake stuff off of my tables. Should be putting in my bid tomorrow or Wednesday, probably make the order Thursday.

sweet,im thinking about ordering this sub at the end of the week.i was also looking into a DIY sub also but the one that was recomended to me was way too big so i think i will just get this one instead.

I'm also glad to hear that. It's pushing me one more step closer to ordering a new Acoustech pl-89 5.1 setup with a pl-200. Do you think the PL-200 will play nice with my klipch w12?

Dont hesitate to buy. For a little less than $300 it has great bang for the buck. Im not saying it will "pressurize" your room (not really sure what that even means) but it is getting the job done of causing spontaneous grins and oh yeah moments. The cool thing is I have not done the crawl test or even checked any other location beside the one I originally set it in when I first unpacked it. I only had a 6ft cable so I didnt have options. Im going to get a longer cable and see if there are any improvements, but if not thats ok, maybe I just lucked into a good spot.

I don't know what took you guys so long to buy. I have been enjoying my PL200 for the last month and a half, and am very happy. You guys need to watch "9" after getting your BIC hooked up. Massive bass that shakes the whole room.

I'm ready for War of the Worlds to hurry up and come out on Blu-ray. I was previously under the impression it was already out and I was going to go buy it for the big day, but seems it's not out until June! Oh well, I have other movies I can shake the house with.

They declined my $280 I should have stepped to $290 and tried, but I went ahead and said $300 for some reason (I like even numbers anyway, I'm weird about that. OCD I guess. Yes I know 290 is even, but I don't like the 9). Did it too fast to think Will place the order first thing in the morning. I can't wait!

You should have just went through Bing. I think the Cash Back is 15% with them so that brings it down to $279 or so.

The price stays the same, it takes bing 4-6 weeks to pay you back. Upfront pricing is still the same.

When I put my bid in last Tuesday ,"for 275.00", on EBAY, I received an email from Mike Embers saying that he accepts the bid, but they were temporarily out, so he declined the bid on EBAY until Friday, then he had me rebid and accepted it on EBAY. At the time that he told me that they were out, it showed that they had plenty on EBAY. He got 40 in on Friday and probably sold them. I would call him if I were you instead of upping your bid, they might have ran out. He answered when I called, his #888-224-3663.
