BIC Acoustech H200 Subwoofer (AKA PL-200) - Page 27

I just received the disapointing email from Mike at ASD as I will post it below. I did receive a discount if I want to go to the Premiere Ac line but no discount for waiting on the Pl-200 as Ranger had noted. So it looks like I'm in the same situation as a few of you as well, do I wait or do I try something else... hummmm? As I had mentioned on an earlier post if I didnt have the Pl-200 already I would try the PA line but I may just wait until April one again.

POST:
Greetings,
We Regret to inform you that the Inbound company we use at the port gave us bad information (they lied) about the container with the PL-200s. Not once, but 3 different times. Not only did we pass this information along to our customers we also sold 100 of the incoming subwoofers based on this false information. Please reference the letter below and the attached letter from the Container company. The ships engine was damaged in the tsunami.

With that said we will offer a few options in the hope that one of them can make this experience less frustrating than it has turned out so far.

#1
We can wait for the container to arrive and ship the PL-200 around April 10th.

#2
You can look at 2 other subwoofers from Premier Acoustic.

Premier Acoustic PA-120W Powered Subwoofer

http://www.acousticsounddesign.com/c...pid=1205&sc=28

or

Premier Acoustic PA-150 1000 Watt Powered Subwoofer

http://www.acousticsounddesign.com/c...pid=1825&sc=28

If you choose either of these use "coupon code me20 in cart for a 20% discount.

Gentlemen,

I apologize I had been giving you wrong information about the vessel arrival with the container# HNSU2018321 has your cargo of PL-200 Subwoofer. I had been telling you the vessel arrived on the 12th of this month, and would be off loaded on the 13th. I then told you there was a delay at the Port and we were offloading the container on the 14th with a delivery of the 16th. None of this was true. HOWEVER, the vessel had never arrived at the Long Beach port and I didn't notify your company until this morning as 3/16/11. This is all my fault to give all this false information about the arrival of the cargo.

I am deeply sorry for the delays and I will keep track of the updates everyday about this cargo status.

As someone who owns dual PL-200s , I say if you already have one it is worth the wait for a second one. I had to wait for my second one also during the ice storm here in the south back in January. It was delayed by 8 days. It felt like it was forever so I know waiting for a month or so hurts....
I hope the old saying of "good things come to those who wait" is true. Got the same message with the 20% discount offer and suggestion of the PA-120/PA-150.

The 150 is tempting but can find little information on it. Not sure my old house would stay standing..

I agree Cap... I will just wait until the next shipment comes in. I have waited this long whats another month or so.

I was pondering the thought of getting the PA-150 as well Pdxfj, as it is a tempting offer but then I thought to myself " I know for sure the Pl-200 is an excellent sub I.M.O. as its not worth trying out the PA's and not likeing it so the wait will be worth it."
The Premier Acoustic PA-150 came out last September. So far there are no reviews anyplace on the web or here at AVS.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...php?p=19298856

One AVSer ordered the PA-150 on March 1 but has not as yet reported back with how it sounds (or even better with measurements using a RS SPL meter and REW).

anyone here thinking of getting the lava lsp12 instead of waiting on the pl-200's??? as others have stated, mike's attitude leaves a lot to be desired and im big on customer service. the lava's seem to be getting good reviews and the pricing is similar. i may just get that instead of waiting on the shipment.

I didn't get any bad vibe from Mike when I dealt with him. He was prompt to my questions and polite. But I was again pondering the Lavas so I can get a sub already. My concern came from the review at Audioholics. Gene said they thought the Lava was tuned too high, giving it good mid-bass punch that their reviewer liked. But, I want the lower end too. The PL-200s seem to have a bit more response in the 25-35hz range than the Lavas. I wonder if a little EQ might make the Lavas a little better.

I have two Bic F12s, one pl-200 and two lava 10 inch subs. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't go with the lavas. They do sound better for music but they do miss out a lot on the lower Hz ranges.. The Bic's do go deeper and are just plain better for ht IMO. There was a lot of problems with loose port tubes on the lavas when I got them, hopefully they've fixed that.

I know it sucks to wait, but believe me the PL-200 is worth the wait IMO.

Tex, your collection of these subs makes you pretty important in this here thread.

I'm glad to hear my plan of waiting for the 200s is probably the right one. If they don't ship on or about April 10th however, ...

will be delivered on Friday. Same guy as last time. We truly believe he will not make the same mistake 2x but we are waiting till we "see the truck" this time.

Best Regards,

Mike Embers

Welcome to the forums Mike. I hope the truck comes in too.

Update: they have shipped!

Excellent news Mike.

Let's all hope the shipment comes through.

Is it Friday yet?

Good to see you on the AVS Mike! Its always been a pleasure doing business with you! By the way, just ordered a couple of Klipsch speakers from you today, thanks for the great price again!
Welcome, Mike. It was because I read the good stuff on here about your company that I just ordered a PL-200. So, thanks!

Just an update for those who're waiting for PL-200.

I was looking for alternatives when I was told I had to wait. I was thinking about eD A2-300, really liked the specs. I contacted eD, got a small discount. I almost pulled the trigger. But I really don't like the looking and I also have to wait for at least 3 wks to get it shipped.

Eric emailed me yesterday, saying PL-200 will be in Wednesday, asking if I still want one. I said yes. This morning I got a notification from UPS:

"This message was sent to you at the request of SOUND DISTRIBUTORS to notify you that the electronic shipment information below has been transmitted to UPS. The physical package(s) may or may not have actually been tendered to UPS for shipment. To verify the actual transit status of your shipment, click on the tracking link below or contact SOUND DISTRIBUTORS directly."

Cannot wait!

So should I hook this sucker up to my Denon 991 using the pre out RCA connection? Any special settings on the sub itself that I should mess with?

I have my two PL-200s connected to the sub out with a subwoofer cable. (monster) The crossover switch on the PL-200 is set to out. Use the crossover in your Denon. Having the crossover switch on the sub to out bypasses the internal crossover. I have the phase on both set to 0. One word of caution, DO NOT TURN THE VOLUME UP PAST THE MID-POINT to begin with. For a budget sub this thing is very loud !!!! I have mine one notch below the mid-point and my Sony's sub level set at -3 from a range of -10 to +10. At this setting I get a very strong deep response. I had it set higher up to 0 and when testing out War of the Worlds. I really thought I would damage the sub it was putting out so much bass. I turned the sub level down to -3db and I'm still getting huge amounts of bass that I can hear and "feel". It took a good amount of time to find the right location for them. I finally have them in the perfect spot. In the front of my theater below my screen about 30" away from the side walls and 6" from the back wall.

Awesome, thanks for the advice! Pre out it is. Volume, 3/5 of the way!

Well I got my tracking info from Mike and UPS shows my PL-200 is on the way.

Too bad I have to wait until Monday for delivery.

Looking forward to hooking it up and rocking the house down.

I'm considering bidding on Ebay, what is the $ I should bid? Thanks. I'm also considering 2 Emotivas 12's , any one heard both, the emos will be more.
Actual weight of PL-200 is more like 41 lbs, amp is 5 years site must be wrong this is what the tech said it says in instructions for PL-200, I was going to get a Polk PSW505 to replace Polk PSW450 I got offered 160 for, but everyone seems to have good response on PL-200 in what the 269.00 range delivered. 2001 sub to a newer sub should help system, little more power, one person said the PL-200 were not as good for music any ideas on that as I am just asking here. Basically the PL-200 cost me what $109 after they picked up my old sub the other day.

Damn you! Mine is still in "shipping label created."

I am pretty sure this was posted already but I am doing it again. The warranty is 8 years parts/5 years amp. Here is the email from support.

Sir:

The warranty term on the PL-2200 woofer is 8 years, and on the amplifier it's 5 years. Those are the numbers shown in the user manual specs, and they are the ones that count.

You will need something like this:

Yep. Monoprice is hard to beat for their cost and quality. I grabbed two of item #2683, the 25 ft. versions to give me placement options. They are decent cables with well-built ends that plug in snugly.

My subs are set to arrive Monday... Glad my weekends always seem to fly by.

Welcome.

As said, bid $269. Also, I would suggest starting at the very beginning of this thread and taking a couple hours reading all the way through. There's a lot of discussion about the pros and cons of the PL-200 and others. This thread has a TON of good advice in it.

I went with two of the 200s because I have a large room and I could not afford two of other options. The consensus seems to be that the 200s are a very good sub for HT if your expectations are reasonable. But, they are reported to be less than ideal if you're wanting them primarily for music. On this point, please read the sticky about posting if you're looking for a new sub. It has some good pointers so that we can give you the best answers.

Lastly, I think if you are interested in the PL-200, make your decision as quickly as you can before the price goes up and before they run out, which seems to happen fairly often.

I love that they label it "w/fancy connector"
Thanks RangerEz, my split is about 70/30 toward more music. The room is 20 by 23 with a large opening. The emos are better for music as I've read. I've got two 7 channel emo amps I love so I know emo products are great. I need to make a decision soon as the price and availability is not constant. Thanks for your time.
