BIC Acoustech H200 Subwoofer (AKA PL-200) - Page 31

Hello, new to the forum but long time reader. I just purchased a Bic PL-200 sub to replace my Polk 303 8" sub. I have an approx. 15 x 25' den with a 50" plasma, Sony STR-DN1000 receiver, and set of Polk RM6700 speakers (2 fronts, center, 2 satellites). The Polks are smaller speakers but decent for their size and price (bought them in 2003ish).

Any recommendations as to the new sub and speaker settings. I believe I currently have the speakers set to large in front, small center and satellites, and the crossover set to 150 for the speakers via the receiver's settings. I'm wired via a single cable from the sub to the receiver (lfe?).

I would suggest a very classic standby in settings. Have all speakers set to small and have the crossover set to 120hz for LFE. I would also try 100hz to see how that sounds. Change it watch a few movies, change it back, watch another couple. See which one sounds best to you. This will most likely be a few day process.

I just wanted to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed in this thread. I had a $300 budget for a subwoofer since I just finished rehauling my Onkyo 7200 HTiB setup and replacing the Onkyo speakers which were just not up to par for me.

I purchased and installed Polk M70s mains, Polk CS2 center, and Polk M40s surrounds. It wasn't until I took the advice of the people in this thread and received my BiC PL-200 that my home theatre setup has finally come to life for me. Watching Tron Legacy with the PL-200 was surreal.

Thank you so much for your help, I couldn't be happier with my purchase !!!

Thanks! Apparently my speakers' bass response falls off around 80-90.

I just can't get over how great the PL-200 is. It's on par with my stepdad's $700 Paradigm sub.

A page back I wrote that I had returned by pl-200 due to an odor, and ASD gave me a new one. After 6 days this one blew the fuse. BIC and ASD told me that if the fuse blew I should return the sub. This morning I returned it and got another. Now I am on my 3rd one in as many weeks. Before I plugged this one in I replaced the power outlet and used my volt-meter to check the polarity of the recepticle. The LFE cable I'm using is a Monster cable that I used on the sub I replaced. Wish me luck!

Get a power conditioner. It sounds like you might have "dirty" power at that outlet. APC makes some nice ones.

Yes it sounds like you might have some dirty power coming in. 3 subs going out is really strange. I use Monster's SW 200 power center for both of my PL-200's and never had an issue. You can get it on Amazon for less than $20 each. It has an outlet for the sub and an additional outlet. There are inputs for the sub cable also.

Where is everyone purchasing their pl-200 from? Did the price go up recently?
I checked acoustic sound design and they're selling this sub for $349.

Unfortunately I didn't see the h-200 listed in their Ebay store or anywhere else on ebay for that matter.

Edit, I see I can make an offer on their main website. Let's see what happens.

i just got my BIC Ac PL-200 ordered 3 hours ago from sound distributors. i am just wondering how long it'll take for the sub to get here in alabama, from las vegas. i have klipsch quintet speakers and need to replace my onkyo sub for a 7.1 setup.

basing on this thread, budget wise and quality speaking, the PL-200 has a better advantage than all of its competitors. i'm just hoping this is true. fingers crossed!!!!

I ordered mine and it got here to Iowa in about 3 business days, so 2-3 business days wouldn't be unreasonable.

I'm a little concerned with the lack of availability of the Pl-200 because I just ordered one last week through acoustic sound design on ebay, and now they're no longer available, from anyone. Is this model being phased out? I would like to get another in the future to complete a 7.2 set-up, but not necessarily right now.

Here are the two main store fronts for the Bic Acoustech Speakers.
They both seem to have the PL-200 in stock, I would of course call and check the in stock status of course.
Don't forget to use the make an offer option.

Not being phased out....just high demand. A couple months ago, nobody had them in stock and the wait was over a month for some people.

I bought mine through Acoustic Sound Design on ebay. I made them an offer that they couldn't refuse . I just noticed that they took the item down two days after I bought mine. I was a bit worried that I bought something right before a refresh or something. I also like buying things through ebay because they offer ebay bucks back for future purchases...I know, I'm a cheap-o.

Has anyone noticed one or more of the subwoofer mounting screws on the PL-200 being overtightened at the factory? A couple of mine were stripped out, so two of the screws won't tighten up around the sub. Kinda dumb.

Hi. My pl200 driver was damaged so I disassemble it. And screws was not too tight. Just normal tight. Hope they have the driver for a replacement. I read the factory have a shortage of pl200s. I hope they still have a driver for a replacement . Meanwhile I would like to know a good PL200 driver replacement that fits perfectly in the Pl200 sub case. Any ideas?

I sent a message to Acoustic Sound Design on Ebay, and they said that they are going to be getting more in around June 8th.

At what crossover should I set my subs to? Right now I have to crossover in my receiver set to 80hz. I have tried it at 100hz but heard no real difference. What setting do you guys use? And do you hear any difference when you change it? My two PL-200s are up in the front of my room.

Just depends on your set up/layout. I have the Pl-200's set at 80hrz crossover on the AV but thru Audyssey its set at 75/76db

I left my PL-200 unplugged for a while and upon plugging it back in it blew the fuse. Replaced it and immediately blew again.

Warranty time!

Here are the instructions for those that are curious:
Quote:

We can repair your sub's amplifier under its two-year warranty.

Please remove the control plate/amplifier assembly by taking out the screws around the perimeter of the back-panel control plate. Lift the assembly partially out, enough to reach inside the cabinet and wiggle the wire clip leads off the woofer input terminals. Wrap the amplifier in a couple of layers of bubble wrap and pack it securely in a sturdy carton, but don't seal the carton yet.

WARNING! In order to have your amplifier processed, you must follow ALL of these steps:
Put in the carton a note with a brief statement of the problem symptoms and your name, shipping address, telephone number, and your RA number (W305.)
Also put in the carton a copy of your receipt or other dated proof-of-purchase document.
Seal the carton. Print on the outside of the carton in large characters your RA number: [redacted].

Do not use the US postal service. Send the carton by Fedex or UPS to:

BIC America
925 North Shepard Street
Anaheim, CA 92806
ATT'N: Connie.

Your amplifier will be repaired and returned at no charge.

Kind of a bummer they won't cross-ship one...

FYI:
BIC America just announced an across the board price increase effective 6-15-2011. We have 150 PL-200s hitting the Port tommorow. After they are gone, new "low price" will be higher. They have NOT sent us the new prices yet.

Lucky I got two of them a while ago....They are incredible in my theater.

I had been watching people go back and forth about the Bic PL-200 and the Lava Subs LSP12. I decided to purchase each of them and decide for myself. I choose the Lava LSP12 over the Bic PL-200. That was even before a price increase. With the AVS discount I got the Lava for $287 including shipping. I would say look at the Lava LSP12. A raise in the price on the PL-200 makes the decision really easy in my opinion. After going through both subs, I actually like the LSP12 way better.

Here are my posts showing the differences I saw between the two.

anyone else having any rattling issues with the sub cabinet? Mine seems to rattle during some heavy movie scenes. The rattle seems to be coming from the top of the cabinet, if i press down on the top the rattle goes away.
