'MythBusters' on Discovery HD

Hmm... I figured there would be a Myth Busters thread out here somewhere but I searched and didn't find one.

Anyhoo...

Cool episode last night -- lots of big booms and excellent high-speed (super slow-motion) shots.

On the "Speed" bus myth though, a bus taking a very tight corner at 50 mph and not flipping over, I have to call BS.

Two things:

First, from the footage, it looked like that after the bus made the corner, it do d not look like the bus was still going 50 mph or better. It looked like the speed had dropped down to about 35-40 mph. At this point (in the movie), the bomb on the bus would have detonated because the spedometer went under 50 mph. I know Jamie and Adam both were doing 50 when they entered the corner, but my guess is that they either took their foot off the gas pedal or kept it depressed the same amount while they went through the corner. Obviously, with the bus making the corner and skidding this would slow the bus down.

Secondly, after making the corner, both Adam and Jamie went off the coned-off "road". In the movie this would have put them off the road and into the ditch or somewhere where it would have been difficult to maintain 50 mph.

I enjoyed the show, though. It was funny when the car going under the semi-truck trailer had it's top sheared-off and the breaks failed and it flew over the earthen berm.

They must be running out ideals to do some dumb specials like this one.

Well, I liked it. It's better than most of their 2hr specials.

I guess Kari is out on maternity?
Don't like the new girl yet.
Kari is already back at work. So the new girl will be gone.
Oh come on! The new girl is HOT. She used to be on a four wheel drive modification and hop-up TV show on SPIKE TV.

I'm not a big fan, either. I think Kari does a good job keeping the other two on track.

However, it's always nice to see a girl that can weld...which is almost as good as a girl that will watch football with you and actually be into it...

The new girl is Jessi Combs and I think she will grow on you. Very talented around the garage and she's good in front of the camera.

In Canada they have yet to show Mythbusters in HD even though we have a seperate Discovery HD channel. My question is how long has Mythbusters been producing episodes in HD?
several years

Kari or Jessi? I don't care as long as they have a hot and smart woman around while the guys look like nerds when they blow up stuff.

Jessi, I used to be into 4x4 buggies and watched Extreme 4x4 all the time. Last name might be different for obviuos reasons. It's been a season or two since she was on the Spike network. I like her.

All right, Jessi hooking up a car engine to nitrous oxide to double its power for the skipping car was pretty amazing. Of course you can learn how to do this from magazines but it seemed like Jessi does this every week.
I don't care for her much. Everyone else on the show can't act, and they don't try to hide it when they are going through their lines in the scripted scenes. Jessi seems to be mugging for the camera. I guess she's good at her job, but she gets on my nerves.

I was a big fan of Mythbusters since the first episode but the past couple seasons have been difficult to watch. A show like this needs a rough outline, not a script but obviously Discovery does not realize this at all. It's almost painful to watch Adam and Jamie read what's on their "minds".

I would be quite happy to see Tory and Kari gone and just have Grant stick around as a helper. I liked it when Adam and Jamie were given the time to say more than 10 words and they had the whole hour to explore a topic.

While I agree with some of you that the show has tended to jam too much in sometimes, I dont really think two tests are that bad. Some of it can sound kind of forced, but in the end sometimes the akwardness is what makes the show funny.

I ahve been turning my little nephews and nieces on to this show and they are actually facinated by it. If this helps them learn even a small amount of information beyond school and makes it fun for them then I am good.

I am still a fan of the show and most everyone on it cant really say I have complaints.

I forgot to watch the last few episodes so I haven't seen Jessi at all.

The show with the dimpled car was mind boggling. That one was just amazing.

People don't appreciate how hard they work. They worked three solid days on the falling bullets episode to get a few minutes on the show.

Of course, if you just watch the last five minutes of the show you get 90% of the science without sitting through all the commercials and experiments that didn't' work.

Missed it, what was the dimpled car?
The original myth said dirt on a car would make it more aerodynamic because it would be like the dimples in a golf ball. That one got busted.

But the MythBusters went a step further. They covered a Ford Taurus in clay and measured the gas mileage. Then they carved out 1,000 dimples all over the car, putting the removed clay inside so the weight would be constant, and they measured the gas mileage again. Do dimples improve gas milemage?

Spoiler alert. Answer below.

The dimples increased gas mileage from 26 to 29 mph!

Seems like every myth has to be an explosion on this show.

Yep, the past few seasons have really devolved into creative ways to blow things up. Meanwhile, the science content (which was never stellar) has gone down.

I liked it better when it was Jaime and Adam with occasional help from they Mythterns. I don't enjoy the equal time spend with Tory, Grant, & Jari.

It looks like they are moving to Monday nights - at least for the last two shows of the season. It seems like a lot of the Cable Nets are shuffling their schedules.

They don't hide that they purposely end every show with some kind of mass destruction. That blew up in their face (meaning it didn't!) when testing the "bull in a china shop" myth.

Every episode has an explosion.

Every episode Adam throws up.

I can't wait until Kari is back. This new chick's voice and acting are atrocious.

And only one of them had to go to the hospital this week.

I can't imagine Kari climbing up into their fake helicopter as well as Jessi did.
