Problem: not sure if its ps3, tv, or wiring

got a new tv a few wks ago(previous tv never did 1080p) and when i switch the ps3 to 1080p i get specks of white dots that flickr randomly across the screen but in 1080i it looks good, anyone else have this problem

Did you try a different HDMI cable? Just because its the easiest to check and to get it out of the way.

but wouldn't a bad hdmi cable do that for 1080i also and not only for 1080p

I had the same problem setting up my father-in-laws PS3. 720p/1080i didn't show the specs as noticible as 1080p. Give these guys a look for a replacement. http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...02&cp_id=10240

Brand of TV? While it is most likely the HDMI cable, the Sony new LCD TV's had a sparkle issue that was resolved with firmware updates.

No, 1080p requires twice the bandwidth of 1080i, hence a cable might cope with 1080i, but choke on 1080p.

the tv is a sony v5100 and reciever is yamaha v1800, hdmi cable is 1.3a from monoprice
