Panasonic V10 [NO PRICE TALK PLEASE] - Page 5

Assuming 24p performance is good on the V10, I think I'm sold on this over the G10.

50" vs 54" -- I'd prefer 54", but lose the swivel-base and one-sheet of glass (glass not a big deal).

Okay...I did find a big price difference at monoprice...but okay...I think I am not getting the right mount...I am looking for a mount that can not only tilt, swivel, pan and pull out...but a mount that can pull the TV out...and then like...not TILT down...but also be pulled downward, know what I mean? Like, I am lower than the TV, and I want to pull the TV down to eye level. Does that make sense? Do any mounts do that?

A little off the current discussion, but I got an update on my 50" V10 predicted arrival.

When I bought it they said May 15, I got an automated voicemail yesterday that now says it will be arriving on June 11. Bummer.

I received a voicemail also (from NFM) stating the second seek in June. I also emailed Panasonic and received this response: The 50 inch v10 is set to be released late June of 2009.

To my knowledge, there are no mounts that lower the TV or drop it down so that it sits lower. People sometimes want such a mount so they can mount the TV above a fireplace, but pull it down in front of the mantle to bring it closer to eye level when watching it but such a mount doesn't seem to exist.

It's shameful the way some online vendors will try to state they have a product just to get people to buy it early when the reality is they don't even have it on stock. I'd just cancel unless you happen to get a really good price.

That is fine if you have another option, like a Pio. In my case, where I want a 65 inch set and the V series seems like the best bet, you don't have much of a choice.

June 11th is probably all I can handle for the 50V10. If not... Pioneer I go.

i emailed Panasonic over a month ago asking about the release of the V10 and also if THX will be brighter over the G10 - i finally got a email - i even forget i sent one to them -

i was told - the V should be out in late JUNE - and it should be better because its the higher end - ??

not exactly the response i expected - it SHOULD be better just because its the next line up -

i dont take this email with any truth to it - just have to wait and see - i am hoping it comes out this month because i am tired of waiting also and i want to get the V if it is in fact better than the G10 -

So what about the THX...the V10 woops the G10 in physical looks...well worth the extra $199 it cost me over the G10/15

Will the V10 line include a new 65" model?

Yes. However the 65" normally will hit is September

Panasonics always come out late with there high end models, then the release dates get pushed sometimes too boot. ( This is going to hurt them this year as almost all of Samsungs new line is out )

Here is a wacky contraption idea: mount >> plywood >> lift >> tv

... is there anybody saying something about the DLNA-mode.

... I can´t find information about the resolution for videos.

... I read about the limitations in VGA-mode (HD-15-connector) - no full-HD

... I´m still waiting for my new 46GW10 (German model) and I´m not shure if it make sense to stop my order and switch to the V or G15 model.

Update:

I found information about the new feature - here in your forum ;-)

I'll be curious about your thoughts of the new Sammy's vs. the Panny V's when they're both available for direct comparisons. I plan on finally replacing my 5 1/2-year-old Sammy 720p DLP with a plasma, but I can wait till the V's are out.

I'm waiting on the 50 inch V10 myself. It's painful and dissappointing if the release date for the 50" V10 will be late June as opposed to late May as I was planning. But, I have been kicking the tires for two years for a plasma television so another 60 days won't kill me I guess. The G10 is a very appealing model, but I am hoping that the 24 fps flicker issue will be solved with the V10 series and pro picture adjustments will be possible as well. If anyone knows when Best Buy will be receiving the V10s or accepting pre-orders I would be very interested in knowing this. Thanks!

Do I wait for the V10 or do I buy a Samsung 750B LCD?

Unless you have a bright room with uncontrollable ambient light, IMO plasma is the better overall picture versus LCD. Go with the Panny G10 or V10, or a new 2009 Samsung plasma.

^^^ This is true so look at the Samsung PN50B850

I'll tell you, Samsung is very impressive this year. Flat out, LCD and Plasma. There whole line is pretty much out right now...... ( All other manufacturers are playing catch up )

Is there are review somewhere that measures the black level?

The Samsungs may be "out" but there are no detailed reviews to provide legitimate benchmarks. Between 24p at 48hz, cyan and magenta color issues, and a THX that restricts brightness there is an opening but Samsung has been slow to provide test units to the market. My seesaw has swung to the 54g10 due out in a couple of weeks (viewing range 7 to 12 ft) but it is really the 54V that would suit my taste. I just can't wait as I am filling a new room with my first "man's" TV.

AV Forum reviewed the KRP-500A Kuro (very similar to the Pro-101FD Signature Elite), at least this gives clues as to where the V10 classifies against the KRP-500A (Elite Kuro's)

Well, I have an entire sliding glass door/wall that faces east. I don't get direct sunlight except early in the morning but the room does get daylight throughout the day. How much ambient light is too much?

I was very lucky to have paid a great price, less than the most are paying for the 50" G10. I only put 25% down to hold it until it is in stock so I will wait patiently.

From the UK Review http://www.avforums.com/reviews/Pana...10-Review.html I am not convinced that the V10 is much better in terms of PQ than the G10. Colour seems about the same with near perfect primaries but slightly off magenta in THX mode.

The 24p story is very confusing because this UK review mentions that "24p input from the BD Player was handled correctly, too, without any 3-2 judder" but goes on to say "The TV does feature yet another misleadingly named option called "24p Smooth Film", which should be turned OFF to gain judder-free 24p playback" and further says "It's disabled at all times when using the THX mode".

This to me says that its not doing the 24p at 96hz thingy but rather 24p at 60 or 50hz (not sure) which implies 3:2 pulldown even though the review seems to say its not?
Is "24p Smooth Film" = 24p @ 96hz? Does anyone here have a better handle on this?

From this review, there doesnt seem to be as much incentive to wait for the V10 other than the bigger screen sizes on offer, but an S1 also offers that! Maybe a pro calibrated S1 can deliver as good a picture as a G10 and V10? What do you have to say about that Chad or D-Nice?

I hope that Panasonic will finally banish the green ghosts for good with the V10's. If not, I suppose there's always the V11's next year...

While waiting for the V10 myself, I have started to investigated Samsung's B850/860 plasmas. Looks like they are in the same ballpark as the V10 but come in a 1.2 inch enclosure compared to the v10's 2-3.3 inch. Any thoughts on this?

I did the same thing as you. Was all set to wait for the v10 , now after reading the samsung threads the 860 looks like a very nice tv also. There are none in any BB near me yet so i haven't seen one in person. The only thing to compare it to is the g10 right now. For me I am gonna wait and see when they both come out and compare them in person. Maybe there will be some samsung reviews by then.
