I go for the 70 max per screen, 45 max per line as i found it was the best solution for a dvd/xvid player i bought in 2003, a crappy chinese one that still works and that i use to see original dvds and films archived on dvd

I don't disconnect the wd-tv, and it still shows the tumbnails, even the new ones

I have proof.
I have recorded the output signal (from optical) and compared on a PC a and the output from the WDTV is definitely amplified, which causes the mentioned clipping.

Please post hard evidence (oscilloscope screens?). Im sure that WD can fix that...

18 can't be, since 16 is the maximum number of reference frames.

There is no "program to share", you need to recode the video stream with your prefered encoding / converting solution, resulting in an inevitable loss of quality. If you own the Blu-ray / HDDVD / whatever source, you better rip it again.

Another BUG to report, I think:

I have an mkv with a dozen built-in subtitles + an external subtitle in .srt format in my own language. WDTV doesn't see the external subtitle which consequently does not show while cycling through available subtitles...

sorry if this was reported before, but I don't seem to remember it was...

Could there be a max number of subtitles for each file, say, 16, and you've got 16 inside and one (the 17th) outside?

thanks

I have had success getting the thumbnail images to "update" by resetting the WD to original factory settings from the configuration menu. Seems to work quicker than deleting the folder from the HD.

Do you have any details to back up your claim? Describe your audio chain. What is your source material? All file "clipping", or just some? What settings do you use on your playback equipment?

I have the same problem so I'll try to answer:
Tested on optical out, I've grabbed a CD to wav and played the wav on the WDTV, the playback was recorded on a iRiver H-140 (via optical of course).
Then I've compared the recording and the original wav on a PC and the recording is amplified and there is clipping in peaks.
Is it enough information or do you need more?
Hi & thanks for your reply. I'm not very familiar with the iRiver unit you have , so I'll assume that it doesn't add any gain to the inputted source file. I too am very interested in the audio side of this box, as I'm hoping to use it as my main source for music playing in my system. On my wishlist is gapless playback and maybe even simple crossfading .
Do you hear this clipping on ALL music tracks you play or just certain ones?
This is the first I have read about this issue, and I haven't experienced it yet myself (still on first official upgrade FW). Most of my music files are FLACs, and of course some mp3s & oggs. I have found that many mp3s of CDs , when analyzed with MP3 Gain, tend to be way over compressed (99% & over) which will add distortion upon playback. Though obviously your source is from the original CD.
Hopefully we can here something on this topic from one of the WD guys.

i'd like to know if the clipping affects video playback?

also, to the guy with 13 different subtitles, try taking some out with mkvmerge, 13 is excessive and no-one would need that many subtitles!

MKV supports up to 16, so why not have 13? You might not need that many but he does, and it should be fixed if it's a bug in 1.02.04.

Your assumption is right, I've tested it with the CD I grabbed the wav from in a CD Player connected via optical to the iRiver and the recording is a exact match with the grabbed wav.
I was also hoping to use it as my main source for music playing in my system, but in this state it is not good, not to mention the downsampling of 24/96k FLAC to 48k ...
When I have time I'll do some more tests with flac, ogg, mp3 ...

I hear the clipping only on some tracks with high peaks.

It was an original CD.

Most people I know only speak one language and some maybe two or three.

Why would you rip/encode with so many different tracks? I don't get it...

Since I updated the firmware my wd hdtv device won't read my Seagate FreeAgent HDD or USB memory stick. Is it possible for me to revert back to 1.01.02 firmware again (that is if I can get it to read a device)

Hope I can get help
Thanks guys

What's the difference between:

1080p/23Hz and 1080p/24Hz?

Which one should i pick for 23.976 videos? (mkv and xvid)

Here's some "hard" evidence:
On the right side is the original and on the left side is the recorded signal from the optical output from the WDTV.
It is 1kHz sinus tone cca 20 sec log with volume steps 0dB, -1dB, -2dB, -3dB, -4dB, -5dB, -6dB

From the picture you can clearly see that the output is amplified by +1dB, which causes clipping in records with peaks over -1dB.
I've also analyzed the max. volume of a bunch of original CDs, most of them have peaks over -1dB, close to 0dB -> clipping if grabbed and played through the WDTV

BOTH resolution settings do not work properly right at the moment when watching 23.976 videos

23Hz sets the resolution to Standard Definiton (*bug) and there is exactly 1 studdering in every 40 seconds when using the 24Hz setting while watching 23.976 videos.

The correct one for 23.976 videos would be the 23Hz setting (=^ 23.976 Hz = 23.976 frames per second) setting, but since it's broken use the 24Hz setting! (= 24.000 frames per second, very rare)

Ciao, Vincento!
Use a program called mediainfo to gather information about your file and post it here, prego!

Regarding idx/sub subs, i can confirm that the last subtitle is not showing up with 1.02.04

Re-encode the video using your prefered encoder, I use MeGUI, but Staxrip, and Ripbot work ok too.

I have reported the audio clipping issue a long time ago, also the 96KHz to 48KHz downsampling issue.

The replay gain is fixed and you cannot do anything about it.

Don't trust your ears, trust me !

Exactly !!!

You can also record a sinewave at 0dB and observe the o/p on an oscilloscope

SInce it doesnt look like anyone asked did you name the srt file correctly? It should be in the following format:
Movie.mkv
Movie.srt OR
Movie.mkv
Movie.language.srt (where language is the language the srt file is in)

THe Srt file will show as the 1st subtitle track (at least thats how it works on mine).
