Deciding To Save Up for An AV Receiver Have Questions

Hi this will be my first AV Receiver that I will be buying I have narrowed it
down to two choices the first choice is the Yamaha - 630W 7.2-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver Model: RX-V665 And my second choice is the Pioneer Elite - 1400W 10.2-Channel Satellite Radio-Ready A/V Home Theater Receiver w/LCD Screen Model: SC-09TX

I have a few questions about the second Receiver are there any sources that use a 10.2 setup is there a limit on how many speakers you can have in a setup.

This is a releated question how many sound channels does bluray support.
Mmm. Do you know the extreme difference between these two receivers?
And there are no sources supporting 10.2 channels.
A full setup consist generally of 7 speakers plus a subwoofer(s).

Blu-Ray supports up to 7.1 channels at the present.

Fyi, You'll get better advice on this forum the more info you give about your setup.

Speakers? Room size? What components will you be hooking up? Budget? Listening habits (movie/music ratio)?

Ditto LOTR, that Pioneer is a beast.

Components

Receiver
Record Player
Cassette Deck
TV (Sony XBR9 52)
AM/FM Radio
CD Player
SACD Player
DVD Audio Player
HD Radio
SirusXM Radio
VCR
DVD Player
Bluray Player
HD DVD Player

Budget

I already have some components that are on the list

Questions

1.Is It a wise decision to get the Pioneer because eventually I imagine some sources will support 10.2 Surround Sound.

2.Is It worth going with a TV Or Monitor Or Both?

3.I also want to put Multi-Zone Audio And Video in my entire house Is that possible?

There's no such thing as 10.2. Those extra amp are used for things like zones, and biamping.

The closest to 10.2 is DPL IIz, which would be 9.1, but that receiver does not have DPL IIz.

Looks like "AudioBeginner" got a new ID.

Annoying identity-switcher is annoying.

Hello AV Freak,

I do have only one question for you: Are you for real?

Because, if you're not, you are not only waisting your time, but ours as well. Cool enough?

Let's start at the beginning.........

Do you have enough room in your HT room for 7.1/7.2 channels/speakers? How big is your HT room? You state you have Monitor Speakers.....what model numbers/number of speakers? What kind of subw do you have?

What kind of DVD-A/SACD player do you have?

What type of HD-DVD player do you have?

How do you have your VCR hooked up currently?

What type of turntable do you have? Is it connected to its own preamp? Magnetic or Moving Coil cartridge?

What kind of projector do you have, or are planning to get?

Are you keeping your DVD player considering the HD-DVD and BD player can upconvert?

What's the connection type for your Nintendo, Playstation, and SBOX systems?

Sirious and XM are now combined. Which do you have a subscription to?

Are you going to set up a 2nd zone?

Let's start with those questions and work our way down to a manageable recommendation.

$6,000 will net a modest system starting from scratch. For get flagships like the Pioneer Elite SC 09. That will eat up 2/3-3/4 of your entire budget.

OK.....you don't have a VCR. Unless you have VHS tapes (which it sounds like you don't), you won't need one.

HD-DVD is a dead format. So forget about that.

Since you seem to be into gaming, A PS3 will probably be best as a combo music streamer, BD player, gaming system.

On your budget, forget a projector and a screen. In addition to the equipment, you're going to have to do some DIY alterations to your HT space.

Something like this would work in your budget....

-40"-42" plasma or LCD TV from Panasonic, Vizio, Sony=$1,200
-AVR-Pioneer/Marantz/Yamaha=$500
-Some of these speakers
http://www.htd.com/cabinet-speakers/...speakers=about $2,000 with shipping
http://www.oppodigital.com/dv980h/default.asp DVD-a/SACD player=$170
-stand, cables, interconencts = $500
-Power/surge protector=$300

That should get you pretty close. And, it would be a nice starter system.

Hey....no problem. It can be a little intimidating when you're trying to put together a system.

Can't really go wrong with any of the $500 AVRs from the companies I mentioned (add Denon to that list).

http://www.6ave.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=MARSR4003

This one's particularly nice..
http://www.6ave.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=PIOVSX82TXS

Same goes for the plasma/LCD companies I mentioned. Costco has a really nice selection of nice monitors. And, you would be hard pressed to beat their prices.

Speakers are a highly personal decision. The ones I pointed you to are all voice matched (important in HT) and represent a good "bang for the buck".

I think you may be able to shave a little off your system if you don't have DVD-As or SACDs. They're getting more and more scarce.

Add that money into a better AVR, a little bigger display, some blu ray disks.

THe PS3 is, and has been, one of the top BD players on the market. It also happens to be a great game machine. And you can set it up as a music server if you like.

Stands are highly personal, too. You can spend a lot, or a little. Personally, I think you can go to Lowes and get some DIY pieces and save yourself some coin and do just as well as buying something from Best Buy., with little effort, a screwdriver and maybe some pliers.

Cables and interconnects, go here...

www.bluejeanscable.com

or here...

www.monoprice.com

I would spend a little coin on a surge protector. Those little strip jobs are pretty worthless.

I like these....

And I like these...

Good luck!

Well I was thinking for just the receiver but since their is not 10.2 yet I will just start saving up for when a 9.2 receiver comes out so my budget is for the receiver and components.

THIS Receiver is only $5K with free shipping... you'll still have approx. $1k left.....
