I understand it being difficult to get to a local retailer, but:Do you have a K-Mart (or Sears, or Maybe a RadioShack) in your town?
Do you have a FRIEND who could swing by there and pick you up a unit?
(Maybe combining the trip to pick up the converter box(es) with a trip to the grocery store.)
If so call them- and get the manager to reserve the number desired.DTVPal PLUS ...... $59 @ K-Mart
Zenith DTT901.... $49 @ K-Mart
(Circuit City, and RadioShack have also been known to stock the Zenith DTT901-but price is higher)
Zinwell 950A (970A) $49 @???
these can be hard to find- I got mine at a local hardware store, finding a store thru this link: https://www.dtv2009.gov/VendorSearch.aspxCouple of reasons to buy locally:
1: Sale supports your local economy.
2: No shipping cost (tax cost is offset by what you'd normally pay for shipping)
3: No time spent fighting with shipper /retailer if item arrives damaged, or is stolen off your front porch.
4: No need to "be there to "sign" for package. (This not being a big issue with you possibly.)
4: Returns /exchanges - This is a BIG reason to buy locally....
Doing so locally is much easier...
Say for example you get a unit that just doesn't "work" for you... (Unit works but you just don't like it)...OR if you get a DEFECTIVE UNIT)...If you buy locally you can return to store.... with the option to:
1: Exchange it for another converter box from a different manufacturer.- with the coupon, and monies already paid applying to the exchange.
2: Return for identical model (In those cases you "like" the box- but the unit is problematic /or defective.K-Mart allows such exchanges for 90-days....
Online retailers at max are going to be 30-days... and good luck trying to swap out the unit for another mfg's unit if you don't "like" the box... Keep in mind also that most on-line vendors will force YOU to pay return shipping on DEFECTIVE PRODUCT (LOL).. The only time they don't require YOU to pay return shipping costs is if a item gets damaged by the shipper- and they get reimbursed for "their" costs by the shipper...
PS: I posted the UPC code
/K-Mart item number for both the DTVPal, and Zenith, and the Zinwell in the corresponding threads.... This helps to verify you and the salesperson are talking about the SAME unit.
PS #2= Sears may have the DTVPal Plus... this said be sure it is the PLUS version @$59 and not the old original DTVPal as the PLUS has a improved tuner. When I called my local SEARS (and that was a nightmare) the person said they did not have a listing for the PLUS...
One last thing- Your local K-Mart should get in (2) shipments per week...so they sell out quick.... Call and get the manager to hold you back some before driving over to pick them up.
NOTE: If you chose to disregard the above you can buy online- BUT keep in mind if the coupon is good to say for example the 20th.... you need to make purchase no later than the 15th- as online vendors need the coupon 4-5 days ahead of time.
(Keeping the above in mind, don't wait till the LAST day to purchase locally- Do yourself a favor and purchase a couple of days /week or two before
coupon expires to save you grief if local retailer is sold out of model you desire.)
One last thing- One on-line vendor is SolidSignal.com http://www.solidsignal.com/cat_displ...verter%20Boxes
they should have the DTVPal Plus and the Zinwell units....
(No body has the Zenith DTT901's online AFAIK)
One last option if online is you're only option is maybe BestBuy.com
.... they have a "clone" of the Zenith DTT901
, the Insignia NS-DXA1-APT
(Actually it is the VERY SAME UNIT, Mfg by LG. Electronics) abit at a higher price than K-Mart.
BestBuy also carries the APEX DT502...
