The offset of the X10 is actually only slightly greater than that of the IN72, at least according to the published specs. The IN72 has a published offset of 28%, the X10's is 36%. So that means on a 105" diag screen (~51" tall), the offset of the IN72 would be ~14" from center of lens, the X10's would be ~18". You should easily be able to make that up with a small screen tilt or lowering of your screen. One thing to keep in mind is that the lens is on the other side of the body on the X10 vs the IN72, so you would have to move your screen or PJ left/right as well.
You mention that your offset is only 9". Are you truly square, or is the Infocus stated spec in error? 9" is more like a 17% offset. I've never read anything about the IN72 offset spec being wrong.
The IN72 and IN76 have different offsets - something to keep in mind if you plan to seek a used IN76. The IN76 has a 16% offset, the IN72 has a 28% (again, according to the specs. I had the IN76 and can vouch for that offset, but did not have the IN72).
Just my $.02, but I wouldn't let small install issues sway you too much in deciding what PJ to get. You may have to move your screen or mount a little, but that shouldn't be that big of a deal.
