XBox360 Media Center Extender interface

Thread Starter
As most know when using an XBox 360 on the same network as an online Windows PC you get an extra "Media Center" option which give you a much nicer interface to access your music, videos, etc.

My question is does that interface differ between the Windows operating systems to mimic what the Media Center looks like for a particular OS? In other words if I run Windows 7 or Windows XP MCE, will the Media Center interface on my XBox 360 look the same regardless or will it look different depending on the OS?

Thanks!!

It will look like the version in the OS. The UI is basically remoted to the Xbox via Remote Desktop. Media Center only resides on the PC, not the Xbox.

Well, I'm new at this VMC, and I just set it up this past weekend, and the XBOX VMC was not exactly like on the pc. I was able to access tuner, pictures, music. On the pc I have TMT3, but it did not show up on XBOX. It may be my setup, and need to reset something if anyone has a different experience. But BD playback was not an option.

Yes it essentially looks the same. Vista 32

Some plugins will not auto install into the main menu on extenders. Goto program library, highlight TMT3(is this a plugin?) and press the "Y" button it will bring up an options menu, click add to start menu. I havent looked into BD on an extender but its not a simple procedure I'm sure, DVD is a pain in the arse cause it needs to be converted to an mpg for the 360 to recognize it.

I know that is the case with regular extenders, but I think xbox actual renders its own interface

Maybe an original Xbox, but the 360 uses what ever the PC has. I know this because customizing menu layouts and skinning the GUI(to a black version) on the PC Media Center all transfers over to the 360, lay out color and all without changing anything on the xbox 360.

Doesn't really matter who or what renders (draws) it, the UI comes from the PC which means it will be the exact same as the UI on your Windows Desktop.
