Have projector - what do you do with your TV??

Ok, I just got a quick outline on my wall behind the TV and it looks perfect for a 120" projector screen. Now for watching daily things like news etc., I would still like to keep my TV as well. I don't know what to do with it though?! Since the screen would start 20" from the ground, the only spot I could place the TV is on the ground without interfering with the screen.

What did you guys do if you still want to use a conventional TV as well???

Thanks for any tips!

most people with the setup your describing use an electric screen that comes down just in front of the tv for movies, and pulls up and out of the way for regular tv watching. if your on a budget, just a manual pull down screen would work.

if your planning on using the wall for your screen, then youll have to think of something else.

I was thinking of getting a fixed frame screen. I also still have an old school HDTV, so the screen would have to be quite a bit away from the wall in order to come in front of the TV...

I put the projector in the theater and the TV in the living room.

I guess that could be an option. We are trying to leave our living room TV free though.

Never understood people that didnt have a tv in a livingroom...Wish I had a tv in every room including the bathroom.

In my mancave I have my tv on my desk and my fixed screen on another wall.

girl:"i dont have a tv"
joey:"no tv?(looking perplexed) then whats all your furniture pointed at?"

different people brought up different ways i guess, my parents always had a tv in the living room, and so do i(well, now ive got a giant 100" screen......).

Things are centered too much around TV's. It's nice to also have a space where you can just talk.

That said, everything is currently in my entertainment room and I don't even have couches in my living room yet .

After some further examination, I might be able to put my TV in the corner and still have enough room for the screen; I'll need to do some measuring tonight.

Guess this is the wrong forum to post this huh . If it were up to me, I wouldn't even have cable or a TV. I only like to watch movies, no time for the other crap. 400 channels of nothing!

Op I agree with others, run a 2 way system, perhaps upgrading your old tv to a 40 inch or so wall mounted LCD, then have the electric screen drop down in front of it for movie viewing. This would be the way to go if you don't have dedicated HT room.

So many different options.

We have a multipurpose room - screen and PJ across width with tv on wall of the length and seating easily arranged so people can watch either if and as when.

We like the dual option -56in TV for watching mindless tv programming (which we do more than we should) saving the PJ and screen for the Theater WOW of movies. Frankly, when we are watching Young and the Restless or most sports programming we perfer the tv and some room lights on.

Our TV is also a rear projection model that won't sit flat against a wall and allow a roll down screen - besides, we very much like our Da-lite fixed wall screen - we're informal folk and the big screen always on the wall of our living/TV/movie/talking/gaming/reading space doesn't bother us a bit.

Get creative and you will figure out a good solution.

Thanks for the suggestion guys! To give you an idea, I marked the outline of the screen on my wall. The viewing area would be the inner part of the pieces of paper. It looks like I should be able to re-arrange the TV to the left corner and place it diagonally. Re-arranging some couches would make it easy to watch TV or the big screen. Screen size I'm going with is 120".

(yes, the wood paneling is ugly but it came that way and is acoustically sound proof ).

when i was growing up, my folks never allowed a tv in the living room. the den, bedrooms, ok but never the living room.
i still carry that on for the most part. i have a projector and screen in my l.r. but they're out of sight except when in use.

my tv is in the kitchen.

Where we live, we want a TV you can just turn on when the tornado sirens blow. Best place for that is a bedroom. I seriously don't think you will need a second TV in your new theater room if you have a 120" fixed screen.

Depending on lighting, I doubt the TV will see much use either

That room is enormous btw; the previous owner was an opera singer and she used to do her singing in there. If I were to dedicate the full room, I could even go much bigger than 120" but eventually I will make a spare bedroom in it.

I technically could but I would have to get a second seating area since the TV would be too far away then. It would create some additional wiring too since I would prefer to still run the sound from the TV through the AVR. Definitely an option I might consider though; good tip!

My TV was from 1988 and the sound stopped working long ago. So it was easy once my projector replaced the majority of my TV/movie watching. It went to Goodwill's TV disposal. No, I didn't donate a broken TV, I marked it as broken and they disposed the television.

Haha! Do you have a fully light controllable room? My TV is an '04, so it's a bit younger

I don't have a picture but at our vacation home, I have the TV setup as you do and a screen above it on the wall, so you can use the AVR for both, just some don't like looking up to watch a movie.

Our vacation home has the same wooden paneling, its great for watching movies, keeps the room dark.....

I put this in the other thread. Meant to put it in here. This is the solution I have currently.

Since I bought a projector, my TV watching has drastically declined. I'm now to the point where I spend one, maybe two hours per week in front of the thing.
