I finally found a sub $300 TX-SR606 (yes refurb) but most people seem to trust Onkyo receivers.
So I've always been the guy that likes to take chances on lesser known but rave reviewed companies. Polk, Sony, and other Tier 1 brands are okay but obviously I'm looking for quality sound, good looks, and low price. Something that is hard to find in the names mentioned above.
I've looked at and seen many forum posts around the BIC and Premier Acoustic brands. I've also seen "Energy" come up more recently as well.
Here are my details:
20x20 room that actually is quite bigger because the kitchen is behind it. Carpet floor until the kitchen and 20 foot ceilings.
I have room for tower speakers near the corners of the room on each side of a quite large entertainment center.
Fronts and center are the most important for me. Surrounds may come later.
I love pounding earth shattering bass. Clarity is great of course but maybe even second to the shake of a powerful air moving sub.
What I seem to see is people liking the BIC sub better but choosing to go with the PA-6 or PA-8 for their 5 part of the 5.1 setup.
My next question is if I really need the 8" or if 6" is enough. Are there other advantages to the larger (and more expensive) speakers?
Some day, I might finish the basement where all this would go into a dedicated home theater.
Any advice on the "best bang for my buck" on the speakers would be great.
